I ask because I see so often people buying test strips on E-bay and wonder are there many different meters in use.

Surely diagnosed Diabetics get lancets, meters and test strips from the NHS F.O.C.

I use a GlucoMen Lx meter with Glucojet lancets and glucomen strips.

I have an abundance of them here that I don't need had to stop them on script - due to lack of storage space.

I was testing 3 times daily and getting 200 lancets and 200 test strips per month.

Now I seldom test unless I'm curious about the effect of a new food on my levels.

I bought a Accu-Check Nano; and buy the strips from Ebay. DN wouldn't prescribe other but its a small price to pay to check what you can/can't eat.... Amanda x 🙂

Wow, David... I don't think you realise what an unusual position you are in. It seems to be very much a postcode lottery, but typically T2s have a pretty hard time getting hold of strips. In some cases even when they are using meds that are known to carry a risk of hypoglycaemia.

I've also seen posts by t1s who are facing a 'blanket' restriction at their practice who need to fight to get enough strips to make micro-managing basal:bolus possible.

Using two accu-chek nano meters, keep one in the car and the other at home.

use 2, one is a freestyle lite the other a freestyle freedom lite

I use Accu-chek aviva yes it is a postcode lottery and it happens all over the country for strips.

We have an Aviva Nano for my daughter. 🙂

I've got two Freestyle Freedom Lites, one my main meter and the second my backup.

I've also managed to get my hands on a Contour - but I don't have strips for that one.

I can get 100 strips every 3 months out of my GP. I'm not sure if I could ask for more - I've not tried to push it.

Freestyle Lite and Freedom Lite. GP won't script me more than one tube of 50 at a time even though I'm supposed to be testing 8 times a day. He insists he has to follow guidelines, though what they are I have no idea. 😡

I have a One Touch Ultra (I think it's an easy, little long oval thing, pink).

I have to buy my own strips and lancets. No chance of getting them here, but hopefully when I move to Newcastle they might be a bit more helpful.

That's crazy Raymond... what guidelines? Certainly not NICE - they say that the frequency of testing is a matter of individual need.

If that were me I'd be there about once a week for another repeat and generally making a nuisance of myself.

I use the Freestyle InsulinX and use around 50-60 strips a week.........🙂

Carol uses 2 OneTouch ultra easy (pink) and an ultra2. She does have the Glucomen XL too, but we only use it for ketones. We have 2 pots of glucose strips too, which I probably will end up throwing away. Actually thinking about it, I'll take them to Windsor with me, maybe someone there will want them. (goes and sends an email to CWD to see if anyone wants them)

No strips issued... Can't get them , so don't test anymore.

Ooooh don't throw the strips Monica, there's probably someone on here who normally pays for theirs who would take them off you 🙂

Ok, I won't send that email yet, if anyone wants 2 pots of GlucomenLX strips (10 in packet) let me know. Got some lancets too.

I have two One Touch Ultras, ones pink the other silver. I want a green one! Hahaha.

I don't have any problems getting strips to be honest. I get 100 at a time, 4 pots of 25. When I first moved to Reading my doc was a bit funny about it but if anything changed I would kick up a fuss... My sugars are far from stable, ever, theres no way of telling what I might be!

I also have an accu chek aviva nano, one touch ultra 2 and accu check compact plus. Neither of which I use (unless I need confirmation) and are just sitting at the back of my draw! I especially don't like the AC Compact Plus :\ Its way too bulky!!!!
