At risk of diabetes
Hello every one

I am a 54 y/o male, 96 kg, 168 cm, I went to the clinic to do the annual checkups , the HbA1c came 6.6(4.5-6.3 was the hba1c reference range), the doctor told me this is the prediabetes (he was not sure as my result 9 months ago was 5.3), then I became in doubt, now for a month, my sugar level was

  • Fasting sugar , minimum was 81, maximum was 118 , average was 101.
  • After meal (2 hrs.) minimum was 87, , maximum was 190 , average was 129.4.
Am I diabetic or pre diabetic?
can the result change in 9 months?

The reading of 190 equates to 10.5mmol/l so it is over the sort of number recommended after eating.
I think you might be pushing your numbers to levels higher than your metabolism can cope with - hence the changes.
Reducing the amount of carbs eaten is a very effective way to turn things around towards normal levels again, even for fully fledged type two diabetics

Using mg/Dl as you are - 100 is non-diabetic, so you're way over that. Drummer's correct !

HbA1c is the main diagnostic, and according to that you're "pre-diabetic". Which is a fuzzy concept, really, but probably best taken as a nudge to take some action in case things get worse. With your weight & height, IMO it's likely that losing some weight would be the best action to take.

Your fingerstick BG levels are I think less important diagnostically than your HbA1c, but anyway seem to say "pre-diabetic" also. 101 mg/dL avg fasting is just above "normal" reference range, ditto for post-prandial. None of these numbers are terrible, IMO - even the max 190 mg/dL post-prandial is something non-diabetics can see - but especially if they're getting worse, collectively a strong nudge to do something.

Welcome to the forum @lalazar9595

Whereabouts in the world are you posting from?

Prediabetic is a shorthand for ‘at risk of diabetes’, and as others are saying, your levels are suggesting that your metabolism is beginning to struggle a little.

Moderating your carb intake, losing any extra weight you may be carrying and increasing activity levels if you are able to would be a great strategy for you right now I think.
