I'm not on meds and usually have porridge and berries for breakfast. Today, as I hate to see waste, I had a thick white crust of bread, toasted, with cheese, and a banana. Went out and about 2 hours later came across faint and was sweating like a pig, had to sit down in a hurry. Luckily we had stopped to have a drink so I had a hot chocolate and felt ok after that. Could it have been diabetes related?

Yep it certainly could - carb overload for breakfast (thick bread plus banana) - which produces a fairly quick high BG and is often followed by an equally speedy drop in BG. Both choices of carb are fast acting and not a sustained slower release like porridge. You may not actually have been below 4.0 however speedy drops almost always produce quite marked hypo symptoms at slightly higher BG levels.

Thank you, it is weird as it is only the second time I have had white bread since I was diagnosed. Before diagnosis I had gluten free bread as I have digestive issues and too much white bread bloated me. Grandson was here for the night so bought white bread as it is the only bread he will eat, and as I say, I hate waste so thought I would polish it off. Big regrets now

Yes, it’s interesting to watch the false hypo on the Libre. A couple of weeks ago I felt distinctly hypo, checked BG and it was 6.9 with a vertical downward arrow next to it, having come down from 11 in short order. Strange.

Big regrets KM? It’s just an experience to log into the “memory and learning” section of the brain. No harm, no foul.🙂

True, it was a learning experience. Best stick to my porridge, or the occasional eggs Florentine with a slice of brown toast. Funny things is I didn't even enjoy the breakfast !

I'm surprised that you even asked - you have an inability to cope with carbs and you eat carbs and more carbs - what did you think would happen?
I'd be pushing my luck with porridge - and bread is not something I can eat - no matter what the colour - I just wonder what your BG level was at its highest.

That’s a very preaching response Drummer. If Kentish maid normally has porridge and fruit, she clearly does normally cope with carbs and would have no reason to believe the bread would be any higher.

You’re probably like me KM and just can’t tolerate white bread at all. Obviously best back to your usual breakfast especially as you obviously enjoy it more 😛

Bacon and eggs for breakfast is low carb ~ when I feel like eating a breakfast that is what I'll have ~ or 2 boiled eggs which are low carb ~ as is any form of eggs tho rightly or wrongly I rarely have breakfast. I wouldnt recommend bananas😱 at any time km ~ they're very carby ~ and just in case you enjoy grapes I would suggest you steer clear of them too ~ we call grapes sugar bombs😱 Best you eat what you can tolerate without pushing up your bgls. What suits one may not suit another, we're all different.

Have no idea how to add my list of 'achievements' to my posts, like others do. I was diagnosed last September, am not on medication, have reduced my BG from 48 to 44 in 6 months, and have lost 12 kilos, by reducing carbs and exercising. Had actually lost around half of that weight before joining the forum, by eating healthily. Have learnt a lot from the forum, including the fact that we are all different.

I don't eat grapes wirralass, have to avoid a lot of the more acidic fruits due to reflux and Barret's Oesophagus. Bananas have been one of the fruits that up till now I have been able to eat, as they don't aggravate the reflux. Complicated trying to get the right balance 🙂

@Drummer that is one very harsh and uncalled for response, nobody's an expert and each and everyone of us need to learn ourselves what we can and cant tolerate!
@kentish maid I hope it didn't take too long for you to feel better! 🙂 xx

Kentish maid put it out of your mind...its of no real consequence...you're doing fine...it's all about experimenting...assessing the results.

Pleased to hear you're raring to go KM...a spot of grass cutting?...mine is badly overgrown...great activity...it lowers the blood sugar...and.is carb free...I'm being selfless here...offering it to you first...come on...whadda ya say😉.

Hmmmm... A little unsympathetic I have to agree. Not everyone is perfect and we are alll on a learning curve myself included.
