I tested before lunch today at 6.8. After a light carb free lunch (one sausage and one egg scrambled with a matchbox size piece of cheese grated in the egg) my 2HPM reading was..........4.9. I'm confused as i anticipated it to be about the same as pre-meal not lower. I'm not complaning as 4.9 is my lowest 2HPM reading to date but don't understand why this is :(

Sometimes i find that there can be a fluctuation of about 2mmols depending on which hand you test, so if you were to test on your other hand before your meal you could have infact been 4.8 compared to the 6.8 you saw as a result of testing on the hand you did, its really annoying when this happens as you could test low on one hand whearas on the other your reading could show up fine, happened to me a couple of times so dont worry 🙂

Test strips have an error margin of between 10 and 20% ( I've heard different figures). If you build that into the equation the levels were possibly close than you think.

There are carbs in both sausage and cheese, but you probably had such a small amount that you got rid of them by +2hrs, just the result you should be striving for.

Not wher I live, it's quite expensive! lol..sorry

Cheese is free is it not ????????????

It is low carb (like about 2g per 100g, but some cheeses are more) and it is higher carb than an egg (0.6g carb per egg).
I see M&S do Aberdeen Angus Beef and Pepper sausages that only have 1.7g carb per 100 (3 packs for ?8, roughly 1kg of sausage or 18 sausages).
I also found Allbrites (http://www.albrights.co.uk/?p=ecom&xcategory=Low Fat Pork Sausage) who do a range of Atkins diet sausages at a similar price.
