This day last year I was having yet another lot of surgery on one of my eyes - with more to come and the fear that they might not work and that further surgery could lead to a loss of sight. In comparison today has been a day of two big breakthroughs at work, completion of an assignment by today's deadline for a degree I hadn't even started this time last year plus a radical new haircut today! Today has been tears because of receiving brilliant work news plus grinning from ear to ear. I hope that this will inspire others who are experiencing difficult times that support from this site will help you get through the dark times and give you the comfort until you find happy times again.

Lovely to hear such positive news Amanda - if anyone deserves things to go well it is you. Well done with your assignment - what degree are you doing? And as for the haircut - well you now what I'm going to say......we need a picture!! Love Karen.xx

Thank you Karen! the degree is with the OU and is BA (Hons) English literature with a focus on creative writing. Can't send a photo because I can't find a camera😛. love Amanda xx

Well done Amanda! Am also juggling studying for a degree with full time job and family! Add to this my diagnosis last year and 2011 was quite streesful and not that great for me either! Doesn't it feel fab when you hand the assignments in?!! I finish the foundation part of my degree in April, then another year to full honours....keep going!!!!😱 love Katiexx

OMG Katie how do you manage studying with full-time working and a family??!! I really, really admire you. Completely agree that it is the most fantastic feeling when you hand in an assignment xx

I admit it's been really tough. Have felt like chucking in the towel many a time:D However, I have a really supportive husband and kids (one at Uni herself) and am almost there...aaaggghhh!🙂 Katiexx

May I congratulate both Amanda and Katieb on their achievements, you both have something to be very proud of, its difficult enough taking care of a home and family, let alone dealing with the diabetes as well, you are both stars, and I wish each of you every success for the future.

Best wishes
John.

Yes, many congratulations to you both from me too. So much dedication and hard work deserves a big pat on the back.

Loved the inclusion of the haircut, obviously as important to you ladies as the degree work, if not more perhaps.:D

I'm obviously a man🙂

Well done Amanda. Keep on slogging and well done for the haircut. They can often help you to change how you feel about yourself. Good move 🙂

Just need to do a bibliography and I'm done until next month.🙄

Yee Hah Amanda!

You'll only know whether you really like your haircut when you wash it the first time yourself though, I always think. If I can recreate what's been done at the salon - then it's a good un!

Well done Rob! I hope you are going to celebrate submitting your assignment:D. You're certainly right about the haircut, it has made me feel much more focused and confident about making 2012 a good year🙂

Good on you Rob! Personally I hate doing bibliographies - for me, no matter how many I do, I still find them a pain!😱 LOL Katiex

I do hate biblios but since they represent the end of the assignment, I kind of revel in them in a strange, dark way 🙄

Doubt I'll be celebrating ust yet other than not having to think about TMA for a couple of weeks. Got some heavyreading to catch up on. Tradition and Dissent in the Catholic Church in Mediaeval Britain and a chapter on Shostakovich. I'm sure they're more interesting than they sound.

Best get off and go finish it off. Deadline is midday 😱

Rob

Aahhhh - 'Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?' LOL

I should think the church one will be very interesting actually. Talk about politics - the Church got up to all sorts of shady things going way back. I was pretty gobsmacked when The Borgias was on telly.

And of course, it was they and the Crown who got the paintings of R3 changed to depict a hunchback and the writings changed to also depict him as a monster (because the clergy were the scribes) after his death, so people would be glad he'd gone and history would show he was a bad bloke. Appalling!

And I've never read anything about Shostakovitch or his life - he could be fascinating! I'd quite like to know now, actually, Rob.
