hello all 🙂🙂

Im type I diabetes since 8 years I was used needles for injection now I used novopen and inject in abdomen, both arms ,both legs.. now these sites become painful because of repeated injection so what your advice to do .. thanks...

Do you change the needle every time you inject, flowertear? And what size of needle do you use? Maybe changing the needle or getting a shorter one might help. I would also advise discussing this with your doctor.

Hi flowertear! You ought to get your doctor or nurse to examine your injection sites if they are becoming painful. I sometimes get bruises, but these usually fade and don't cause any pain. I've also found that it is often not the needle, but the insulin itself that stings. If this is the case then your doctor may be able to offer an alternative. The size of the needles can also be important - I use 6mm on my novopen. If you don't have a lot of flesh, you can also inject at an angle rather than straight - but get your nurse or doctor to advise you, if possible.

I've also found that leaving one site alone for a week or two gives it time to recover. For example, I would normally inject left stomach, right stomach, left hip, right hip. By leaving out the left stomach for a week it is then fine for a few weeks.

Hope this helps - good luck!🙂

Hi Flowertear,

What I try to do is alternate my sites. This helps to stop things hurting but I do get ones that are quite painful. You could ask your doctor about technique for inections and to have a look at your injection sites.

Have you looked into trying smaller needles, I use very small ones but when I once used bigger ones by mistake (they came with the pen) they really hurt. Make sure you alternate your injection site regularly and that you use room temperature insulin, not straight out of the fridge.

Hi all

I would like to thank u all for your help ,, I will try again in changing the site
also I know I used Insulen not refrigerated in room temperature .
I think the cause sometimes due to needles.

wish you life good.

From time to time I find that rotating 5 injection sites a day, seven days a week can be hard going. A few years ago I discovered a product called Insuflon the UK distributor is http://www.applied-medical.co.uk/insuflon.shtml they aren't cheap, a box of 10 I recall was somewhere between ?40 and ?50 but I only use them for five days every few months, enough time to give my injection sites a little break.

you can inject above belly button, which i tend to use when out and about. I also inject in buttocks, you have to stretch a bit, but its not that difficult (which i never do out and about!):D

Hi Flowertear. you mentioned you inject into your arms- i was told not to do this because there isn't enough fat on your arms and also you can't 'pinch up' because you dont have your other hand free, so it is likely to hurt there.
Don't forget you can also inject into your bum! you really need to find the fattiest parts of your body because this is where the pain sensitive nerves are deeper under the skin, so you won't feel the needle, hopefully.
Hope this helps!
