No idea what I am, I asked Ms Quack and she said no you can't find that out, as it is a special blood test and you're not going to have it! I guess I don't need to know, at least it's not blue or green!

Really, is it? Why do so many people know then? Hmm. Well I will ask next time I'm in the docs, but don't know if they know.

I only found out when i was pregnant rossi_mac 🙂

I was a blood donor before diagnosis, that's how I found out. Mum's is very rare and she was also a blood donor, but because it was so rare she never actually gave any! This is because the blood only lasts so long and they wanted to be able to call on her in an emergency! They found out my dad's when my sister was born because they had to know whether his type was compatible with my mum's otherwise there might have been problems when sis was born (apparently!)

There is another person with the same blood group as your mum AB-) on the other list and she was told to stop giving blood as no-one had ever needed it as it was so rare. I did think that they could use 'plasma' from blood so dont really understand why this is the case. The reason for asking your mum about your dad's blood was because she could have had the anti-D injection to stop her body from rejecting any future pregnancies.🙂Bev

My nan is rhesus negative and my mum is and so am I and I was told when Jessica was born that she is too🙂 and my grandad was as well x

Hi

I am O neg too

I had to have that when I had my twins.

Yeah I'm O negative too as is my husband, so our boys all will be too.

My mother, my grandmother and I all have/had the same blood group, B Rh Neg which is fairly rare. My grandmother was a donor, but neither my mother nor I were ever able to be, mum because she had jaundice as a child and me because of the anaemia. I'm the only diabetic in the family.

A friend of mine who is currently expecting had the anti-D jab a few weeks back, they only discovered her problem this time round because a doctor decided to ask about blood groups and tested her and her partner. She's had a couple of miscarriages in the past and no-onhe knew why until now. she confidently expects to get through this time and is around 6 months at the moment, doing well.

I found out my bloood group back in the 80s because I asked and the doctor told me. I'd been tested as a child because of the rarity of my mother's blood group, they were hoping I could be a donor when I was old enough.

I only found out when I was pregnant and was only told because I asked. I was told that since I was not having complications my baby was likely to be the same blood group as me too.

These results have astounded me.

My mother is rhesus negative - I am her only child, miscarriage after me etc and only found out about her blood group a few years ago !!!!!!

I am AB+

Hi all,
One of the mums on the other list was talking to Jo Solo (from FFL) about the findings of this small survey from both the list and on here and he was amazed. He is one of the worlds top diabetes specialists and he would like to give the findings of this small survey to some scientists he knows in America. Does anyone have any objections to us passing on all your replies (they would get to read your user name - but nothing else - just what most people can see as a guest on here). I just thought I would ask before sending it to him.Thanks.🙂Bev
