hi sorry i should really have said hellp rather than just posting a post but i had got desperate suffering the sulphur burps. i have now been to the chemist and am trying peppermint capsules. and will let you know how i get on with it. but as the heading of this post says

i sometimes struggle with high blood sugars 10-20mmls but particularly when im stressed. what has people found helps keep their blood sugars down.

i am not a fussy eater but i prefer english food. so pasta is out . unless it is the ham leek , potata etc that you get in the packets im not so keen on the tomato ones. i do like cheese pasta but again in minority as it can be fattening,

i have a disabled daughter who im full time carer for and she is in her thirties. so it is a woory not knowing what her future holds. as her disability is not life threatening but debilitating, my husband is also not always in good health .

so becasue of this we have constant hospital visists. and i find it hard to know what to take with us for snacks. or for say a lunch time meal. if you go to the hospital canteen it is not always healthy food. you can heva say jacket potatoes but you get fed up of the same thing everytime.

i like latte coffee. has anyone else found whether this is good for you or whether it puts your sugar levels up. i have sweetner in it no sugar.

i do not add sugar to anything. but only natural sugars in meals .

sorry for long post but just want to help myself as i want to keep healthy as i can and try to lose weight as well with the new injection victoza, which helps you to lose weight by telling your brain that you are fuller quicker. it works alongside your insulin s hopefully it will work but i want to do something with it too myself.

will look forward to anyone answering back. my daughter has found this site for me so im so grateful for anyones help.

Hi Penelope, the main thing to watch out for is having too much carbohydrate in your meals and snacks, as this will raise you blood sugar levels the most, and fastest. Protein snacks like nuts, cheese or cold lean meats should not raise your levels by much, if at all.

People will vary with their tolerance and reaction to different carby foods, so the only way to find out what you can tolerate is by embarking on a system of testing before and one or two hours after eating a particular meal - if your levels go high then look at how that meal might be altered so that it contains less carbohydrate.

It can be a good idea to keep a food diary and mark down everything you eat and drink in a week, recording how much carbohydrate is in everything. Then you can see how much carb you normally eat and where the problem areas might be.

As an example, if you make a ham salad sandwich using Burgen Soya and Linseed bread rather than white or wholemeal bread, this will be lower in carbs and better for you blood sugar levels. 🙂

thanks

many thanks fro your answers. i have been trying to cut down on potatoes and bread and i dont eat pasta. so i will have alook at what i can eat an ddo as you say ill do a diary and let you know .

After I was diagnosed as a T2, I was still having trouble with my BG levels. They would range between 10 and 15. I found very quickly that a salad with oily fish (sardines in olive or sunflower oil) would bump it down to at least 5.5. After that my metformin dosage was adjusted. I've had no problems like that ever since.
