I thought it would never happen but I tested my blood sugar before bed(25 mins ago) and I was 3.1 yes I know 3.1 I hear you shreak, first time in nearly 3 years I was in shock tested 3 times after that to make sure,I washed hands etc etc and still the same so had a small can of full fat coke and a slice of jam and bread, yes I know im not the best at this so I grabbed what came out the fridge first.Anyway all I know is i had a fuzzy head and legs were like jelly.Ive no idea where it came from  Im gonna test again at 11.50 hope its risen eek! As you can all see the meds im on in my signature you will all be aware none cause hypos(to my knowledge anyway)

Well I am now 4.4 so god knows if thats too low to go to bed but hay ho I will set a 4am alarm for my own piece of mind .

I'm glad it's gone up again Steff, but remember it's only been half an hour so you might still be on the way up. Difficult for me to advise you what level is safe for you to go to bed on as mine amost always seems to go up through the night so I can safely go to bed at anything over about 4.5. It's also not easy to know what to do for the best for you if you've not had a hypo for ages.

I remember having my first 'proper' hypo of 2.6 when I first started on Byetta. Like you I just tested before bed and was surprised to see the reading as I didn't feel low at all. Re tested at 2.1 and panicked. Still felt fine though. However, I think it's the first time ever my hubby took it seriously and refused to go to bed til I was at a safe level. He was as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike as usual but it was good to know he cared.

I hope you get a good night. XXXXX

Aha. You are not the first and certainly won't be the last, to go hypo when taking drugs that 'don't cause hypos'. That's a very popular myth put about by very nice people usually, working for the NHS and other household names.

If any of them were T2's on Metformin who'd definitely had a hypo or 3, they might concede that it does sometimes happen. Not with amazing regularity it's perfectly true, but there you are. It does happen.

Summat to do with Metformin suppressing the 'Liver Dump' mechanism, in combination with your Pancreas throwing too much insulin into the equation cos it's a bit broke - but don't quote me on that, cos that's just guesswork. (but if correct or thereabouts, I'll take the credit LOL)

Hopefully someone who has also had this happen will be along in the morning to say what happens next, cos I'm not sure. I have a suspicion this happened to someone I know, and I'm fairly sure it was McMoby. I'll ask him tomorrow if he hasn't already posted by then.

One tip - don't waste more strips after one says "hypo" - just eat something sugary.

As you did, there's a lot to be said for eating what is to hand, rather than searching for "perfect" hypo food / drink.

After any hypo, it's worth trying to work out why it happened.

Even people on no blood glucose lowering medication can experience hypoglycaemia, although usually after extended strenuous exercise.

Hi steff what was it at 4am or this morning before breakfast? Mine would be high after the sugary intake, but as a type1, I take different medication. Hope you feel okay today and you have a lovely Sunday. Best wishes Sheena x

Could it be the fact you've lost weight and are watching your carb intake more closely ?

Bodies take time to adjust and it "may" be that with the recent loss your body needs less meds ???

Defo one to watch. Of course there is also the what did you eat did you have a drink stuff to consider.

Hope your feeling ok today 🙂

Take Care

Sarah x

I don't know whether to commiserate or congratulate you. It seems the Victoza is working along with all your hard work paying off at last. Did you manage to get any sleep?

Thanks everyone tested at 4am and was 5.2 and now after brekkie im 5.6 so happy with that.
Ta for the tip Copepod x

Sarah you may well have stumbled on something there hun so I am gonna keep a closer eye on things

Yeah Alison got off to sleep about 2 and woke at 4 but then slept will 9 x

Glad to hear you are feeling better now Steff, sounds like your levels are very good (other than the hypo of course!) Well done 🙂

Thanks Natalie apart from the odd 10 at night im extremely happy with my levels at the minute im not going above 7 in the day at all x

When I go hypo I go for the cherry lucozade, and if I am in the kitchen I will raid whatever I find to eat. I have had cheese, ham, biscuits, chocolate even if they don't mix lol my brain just says eat..!!! I as I stop getting palpitations I go back to get, I rarely check my sugars after as I know when I feel better, I know I should check.

Hmm I tested abit ago and was 4.2 then went down to 4.0 then 3.9 know its not classed as a hypo but its wayy down on my averages, Im gonna see if I can catch my nurse tomorrow see if she has any ideas,or if she thinks its down to my weight loss.

There's certainly something going on since you are hitting these sorts of levels more frequently Steff, it will be interesting to hear what the nurse says 🙂

Do you think the Vic or the Met need reducing? What's your gut feeling?

If it's the Met and it's not the SR kind, perhaps you might try cutting one of your tabs in half if you didn't want to drop a whole one?

Haven't a clue re Victoza or whether you can adjust it.

Interesting, Steff !

Way to go Steff.:D
You can't go any lower with Victoza, you could be told to reduce the Metformin though.
I'm getting a lot better readings at the moment as well but I've been blaming the cold weather, could that be it? or have you got the heating on!

Hiya Trophy as Vicsetter said you cant go any lower on the Victoza but I guess I could drop the metformin I hate taking it cause its so huge so 1 less would be great LOL

Vic? heating on are you joking im a hard Northerner man LOL.
I'll pop back on tomorrow see what the nurse says.

Steff - maybe a silly question - but have you started doing any new form of exercise? Sometimes exercise can cause hypo's. Nice to have another 'special' person on board.🙂
