You may recall me saying that I had to nag the clinic for months to get my annual review done last year, it got cancelled three times and finally took place on Christmas Eve - the consultant I saw was great though, so it was worth the wait. So, with that in mind, you can imagine my astonishment when a letter landed on the mat this morning offering me a DSN appointment at the clinic on Feb 4th. Wow, I'm impressed - not! This is the insulin follow up I should have had last June. 😱

They like to do things quickly then. Hope the appointment goes well for you.

Terrible! 😱 It would be nice to know why appointments can get so shifted in time. My first annual review was cancelled and moved from June to October. I accept that maybe they can't predict staff holidays, but how come if you happen to fall on the dates taken you end up getting pushed so far down? I suppose there is simply so little slack in the system these days they can't leave dates open?

Pardon me if this sounds cynical...

If you are time-target driven and prioritise people who are overdue, you then force others into the overdue group and your performance vs. target gets worse. But if you prioritise the people who are still within target range, the overdue only become more so... and don't add to the adverse figures.

The source of the problem is the staff cuts they have been forced to make and a couple of folk leaving that they couldn't or didn't replace. They now have one new consultant and a new DSN so they're starting to catch up. However, they would prefer if most folk were seen at their surgery but few have DSNs if their own and many of us prefer to be seen by someone who, theoretically, knows what's what. If I had fewer problems I might not be so insistent on seeing someone qualified but, this my life they're playing with and I will not settle for second best. It seems the health system we have now means you have to fight for what you need and, if you win, someone else may lose out. Which is disgraceful.

I need to pat my team on the back. Sorry you having a long wait :(
