Im Paul ..AKA PeeWee I am in my 60s with extra poundage and Im type 2 and reading economics sorry wrong program ..
Ive been a diabetic for a few yrs and Im on Metformin & sitagliptin ..( amongst a menu of other drugs for heart related probs and COPD ) and I expect I am only one of thousands finding it harder to control as I get older .Ive been offered other drugs but Im of the mind to try other methods first and thats why Im here .to read all about other peoples experiance and to pinch the odd recipe as I think that may be one way to go ..so Hello to everyone here 🙂

How long have you been living with diabetes?

In addition to medications there are two main strategies used on the forum to help with blood glucose management.

One is to focus on weight loss, particularly weight around the abdomen which can indicate visceral fat built up around organs like the liver and pancreas, stopping them working properly. Weight loss can be achieved by any method, but a popular approach is the short term (12 week) Newcastle Diet / NHS Path To Remission programme which uses total meal replacement soups and shakes at just 800 calories a day to rapidly reduce weight. Many members using this approach find that glucose levels improve naturally as their weight reduces. As I understand it weight loss is helpful at any stage, but is most effective closer to diagnosis.

The other approach is to focus on blood glucose management with a lower carbohydrate way of eating (typically less than 130g of carbohydrates a day, but sometimes much lower). Reducing portions of all carbohydrates, not just the obvious sweet and sugary things, but significantly reducing bread, pasta, cereals, potatoes, grains, rice, baked goods, and many fruits. Many members using this approach find that weight reduces naturally as their glucose levels improve.
