Weird situation with insulin and hypos

Right @merrymunky - did they also tell you that a sudden unexpected mega hypo at this stage, can be a very clear sign that the placenta is failing? That's precisely why we didn't say it out loud, we were scared and why we wanted you to contact your medical team!

They’ve never mentioned that no. That’s quite scary.

I think it’s more to do with me overdoing the insulin and crashing rather than unexpected hypos though. It’s always after I’ve had to use a fair amount of insulin.

I’ve spoken to a DSN today and she thinks, like me, that it is a case of too much insulin as it has always coincided with a larger dose of tea time insulin. She has suggested taking less, although it may result in some higher numbers initially. She thinks it’s a combination of this, being less active as pregnancy is nearing the end (ashes not wrong...I barely move!) and just needing less at the moment. We will stay in touch if I have any concerns.

T1s in the late stages of their pregnancy often need to split the insulin dose for meals, MM. Have some upfront, then more later. Is it possible to connect it to 'doses above X' for example? - something only you and your meter could know? Or would eating more, smaller meals help?

Glad you are in close contact with your nurse @merrymunky

Hope your new strategies knock those hypos on the head.

I’m glad you contacted them, and you must if anything seems off or you can’t fully expect it.
I sat for a whole day with a heart monitor on us both when I’d had random hypos all day at about 30 weeks. We had her 4 weeks later.
I was told it was also a sign of pre- eclampsia
Take care x

Oh I would always go for monitoring if I felt the need. I was there a couple of weeks ago after a much quieter day then I’m used to with her. She was fine.

My blood pressure and urine is monitored from home every day at the moment. No protein in urine and BP is completely within normal range too. I’m also on aspirin to help prevent pre-eclampsia but that may finish on Friday once I’ve seen my consultant again for my final induction date and plan etc.
