Just been having the weirdest phantom hypo! I've just been to the shops and started feeling low so tested immediately on returning expecting something like a 3.2 - but I was 5.9! I didn't believe that so tested again on a different meter and that had me as 5.3. So, certainly not 'officially' hypo, but possibly dropping quickly for some reason, hence the symptoms. I had a jelly baby anyway and that seems to have improved things, will test again shortly.

Unusual for me to have a phantom hypo at those kinds of levels as my levels are averaging around 6.0 anyway, so it's not like 5.9 is unusually low for me! Diabetes!!!! 🙄

It's horrible when that happens. I had this happen when I was 10 the other day. The horrible feeling wouldn't go away but I think it was because I was exhausted. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Amanda 🙂 Well, I have just tested again (feel fine now) and I am 7.3! I only had one jelly baby, so the 5.9 must have been correct or thereabouts. I think that maybe I must have been up in the 9s or something and quickly dropped to 5.9. I've only had this happen to me once before, a couple of years ago, and I couldn't work in out then! I even tested my blood pressure to see if it was that, but that was normal (as it was the last time this happened). The main symptom was that I had lots of flickering in my peripheral vision, which is normally my first indication of a low. Usually it's only very slight but this time it was quite pronounced.

Thats very strange Alan - I have just got up (again) after having to go back to bed at 9.15. I felt very shaky and so so tired - I couldn't keep my eyes open so went to bed. Sugar on waking 5.2 so fine. Couldn't test before went to bed as absolutely not functioning right. Probably not the best thing to have done to go to bed, but wasn't able to do much else.

Must be something in the air.

How are you today Alan?🙂

When your hypo do you eat just one jelly baby? I think i must go a bit mad when im hypo.. i just stuff my face with chocolate.. like LOADS of chocolate aha xx

It depends on how low my levels are. On this occasion I wasn't actually reading low so only had one to see if it had any effect. Chocolate is probably not the best hypo treatment because the fat content will slow the digestion down and it will take longer to bring your levels back up. Fastest of all is a glucose drink, like lucozade 🙂

I tend not to overtreat hypos because I have a greater fear of highs than lows, but it seems with a lot of people they fear hypos most.
