can someone explain please? To be brief, I am doing 2 days Fasting a week along with low carb intake and calorie counting and it seems to be working and I am losing weight finally after years of dieting. My problem is, something strange has happened today which I've never had before. I took my BG reading last night before bedtime (just after midnight) and my reading was a good 6. I wake up this morning and my FBG was 8.9 - today is my Fast Day so I had no breakfast and decided to test mid morning just to see if the level had dropped and it seemed to have 'stuck' and was 8.3 even though I hadn't had any breakfast. I then met a friend for lunch and had a ploughmans lunch and 2HPM it was a shocking 11.5 I'm not sure what is going on but I'm thinking of making an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to see if he/she can throw some light on this - I'm very confused by it all.

It may have nothing to do with eating/not eating ( or there again it might!) It's so hot today, everyone's bodies are under stress, and it might be that your liver has decided to increase the output of glucose to help your body cope. Some people find their levels increase in hot weather, others find they drop, it all depends on your particular metabolism. One thing's sure, they rarely stay the same and act like nothing's happened when the temperature hits the 30s.

Hi Carina.
Could it be the hot weather affecting your BG .
My BGs often go haywire when I feel well but turns out I'm brewing an infection.
The higher waking than bedtime reading could be due to your liver, around 3am it can start giving out glucose to get you ready for another day h, think it's called the dawn phenomenon

ploughmans lunch
A lot of things can affect your BG, weather (looks like everyone is complaining of the heat), illness, stress...... Added to which your lunch (my recollection of a Ploughmans is a hunk of nice bread with cheese pickle & salad) is quite high in carbs.
One of my initial suggestions would be to ensure you are well hydrated
