Type 2
Hi all,
I am 5ft 7ins & weigh 9 stone. Have lost lost 2 half stone since being diagnosed with type 2 at the beginning od December. I don't really want to lose anymore. Do you think my present weigh is ok? Have had 2 blood test since being diagnosed. First result was 49, the second one was 48. Have another test booked for this month. Hoping for a good result, after all the changes to my diet & walking a few miles every day. X

Hi, your weight sounds fine to me, but you can always check your BMI at https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/bmi-calculator/

I'm 5'1 and weigh 8st 3lb and have decided to stick there. I could go down as low as 7st for a normal BMI but at 62 I think I'd just look really poorly!

Well done on the diet changes, exercise and weight loss!

Thanks Vonny for your reply.Being 66.Like you l don't want to look as if l am ill. I now feel l am where l want to be weight wise. Glad l have been able to try to sort my diabetes out, without any medication. I will be going out very soon, as my weight loss has made my present clothes look far too big for me. That's made me feel as if l may have lost too much weight.

They should always do a blood test (the HbA1c test, veinous blood taken from your arm and sent off to the lab to be tested) twice, before confirming that you have diabetes since both results were in excess of 48.

Since it measures how much 'spare' glucose has stuck to your red blood corpuscles over the last approx 3 months, this means that as you started making the changes in December the next result should be a decent improvement than those at diagnosis - so just get this test done, see what the result is, and THEN decide what to do next! Not before. If your body carried too much fat to begin with, losing the fat can't be unhealthy. If you've not been eating enough to stay healthy then start eating more of the things that your body can easily cope with - especially vegetables. Not extra carbs.

Hope the next HbA1c check goes well @Woodside

If you feel you are now at your target weight, it does sound like you may need to make a few small adjustments to your diet to go into a maintenance phase. You may find that your weight loss slows and your weight stabilises of its own accord of course!

You‘ve managed to lose that weight quite quickly - congratulations!
