Hi all
Does anyone know if weight watchers do something for diabetics? I know I have to count carbs as T1 so not sure how it would work with WW. I’m sure WW counts calories and sugar?

I am gaining a bit of weight since starting on insulin in December and it’s upsetting me when I eat way less.

Thanks Michelle

Have a look at this link to WW, you may be able to decide if it would be suitable. https://www.weightwatchers.com/us/wwanddiabetes
However it seems a bit soon after your diagnosis when you are still trying to sort out your insulin regime and you need to allow your body to adjust.
Where are you now in terms of your recommended weight.

Imagine they will, know SW caters for people with type 1 & type 2 diabetes as plan is flexible.

Hi Michelle. When recently diagnosed with Type 2 I was signed up by my GP for an online WW 6 month membership. Frankly it was not helpful, and some of the advice was not valid for diabetes control. When I contacted a mentor she admitted to not knowing about diabetes. I have found Diabetes UK a much more useful resource. Vivienne

Could it be you are retaining more fluid? 1 litre of liquid weighs 1kg so quite a bit.
Thanks but they put me on water tablets for a fortnight to reduce my swollen ankles and they are still swollen. I am gaining weight at an alarming rate. Put me onto gabapentin last week.

Yes.. With wholemeal pasta rather than "normal " pasta.. That's why I stopped going.

Did say diet is flexible so you can exclude include foods to your choosing, more so if your following lower carb diet. Your choice not to go back.

Wife ate wholegrain pasta, small portions mixed up with salad & tuna in bowl with light dressing, didn't stop her from losing weight & managed to reverse her prediabetes diagnosis.

Thanks @nonethewiser i might try that, I don’t eat pasta, rice or much bread so that’s fine by me @Lilsis

Nothing ventured nothing gained my friend.

They have an article online that says their system will customise free (zero point) foods for people doing WW who are diabetic @MichelleF78 and it checks on type of diabetes as part of that. It may be worth checking your plan (or discussing with the group facilitator) whether you should include any hypo treatments needed in your points for the day/week though ultimately IMO it's your decision

Thanks so much for your help @42istheanswer i am struggling

@nonethewiser You are correct and I tried to adapt the diet whilst being told what I was doing wasn't healthy long term. I should have shares in SW the amount of times I've been a member.. Shame on me..
It just sticks in my mind that I was a member when I was diagnosed pre-diabetic and again when I was diagnosed as T2 but it is each to there own.. I have lost weight with SW in the past but it always goes back on.. It's taken me a long time to find out what does work for me
