hi I am a type 2 diabetic on metphormin 324mg 3x a day I am following a weight watchers program and am successfully losing weight. When I started last October I was 22stone 2lbs now I am 18st 6.5 I am just wondering what is the healthy weight to see about getting my meds reduced as I am aiming to come of them at some point

Well done Jenny. Amazing achievement in weight loss. I can't answer your question, but I'll be waiting the replies to your question, as I'm in a similar position.regarding wanting to reduce my metformin at some point in the future too. Good luck.

Hi Jenny, welcome to the forum.

I think you may have a way to go yet, Jenny, but you should be mighty proud of how you’ve done so far.

I depends really on what your blood results show. If your HbA1c is getting lower, as I suspect it will be, then the closer it gets to a normal non-diabetes level, the better your chance of stopping medication altogether. Just keep up the excellent effort you’ve made so far, and you just might be able to let your hair down come Christmas. I sure hope so🙂

Well done on your weight loss, that is fantastic. Hopefully your doc/DN will be able to advise when medication can be reduced, but even if it is not as soon as you think, don't be disheartened as you have achieved so much already.

PS not sure if you know, and apologies if you do, but there are weight loss threads on this board, which include challenges and support.

There does seem to be this supposed connection between losing weight and getting better control of blood glucose - the diabetes 'education' team were quite bewildered by my Hba1c of 91 to 47 with only a couple of pounds drop in weight.
Hopefully your diet has not been too full of carbs so your efforts to lower weight have produced a good result all around.

Congratulations on your weight loss.....

Just how much weight is a matter of personal goals, obviously less is better, also there may not be a direct correlation between A1c & weight, it's more a measure of insulin resistance (though the reduction in weight will help with this).... Admittedly a little confusing & probably not what you wanted to hear.... However, setting attainable goals will help you on your journey towards control of D. Myself, like most of our members under good control didn't achieve this overnight, it took time & effort with constant evaluation & re-evaluation.
