I have never been particularly heavy, top weight ever probably 14 stone (6'3") Last few years my weight when at docs is 84 kilos in winter and 80 kilos in summer. Last winter my weight was 80 kilos and everyone around me (mother & motherinlaw) thinks I am or have lost weight again (motherinlaw asked if I was ill), I am off to docs in a few weeks (I think, well soon ish anyway) so I will know what is happening maybe.

I don't think it is a real problem I just feel or look more toned but also think I could be loosing weight, I don't really exercise as such (although intend to start running again) but I don't realy sit down and chillax, I'm always on the go sorting decorating moving sheds shifting sifting, although we are now more sorted in our house I actually sat down for 3 hours last night, first time since crimbo probably! Although Iat work I do sit down when in the office maybe 70% of time.

If I am loosing weight could it be anything to do with the big D I don't take too much insulin, my levels aren't bad, woke at 7.2 last 6 hbalc have been under 7, don't think I'll make the 5 club!

Just wondering if any of you folks can give any advise?

Thanks, hope you are all well

Rossi 🙂

Hi Rossi,

That doesn't sound like a drastic weight loss to me. If your levels are generally in single figures you shouldn't be losing any weight due to diabetes, as that happens when insulin is regularly under dosed and BGs are high all the time. If you are concerned, why not keep a food diary for a week or two and see if you're having enough calories daily. Have you been tested for coeliac antibodies at your annual reviews, as this is another autoimmune disease that people with type 1 have a higher chance of developing, and could lead to weight loss?

The food diary sounds like a good idea, I'd also keep an activty diary too. I tried keeping an activity diary one day and hadn't realised before how little I moved around and that was affecting my appetite

Hi Rossi, just thought it might be worth checking your BMI on the NHS website? It doesn't sound like your diabetes is causing the problem - it sounds pretty good to me. Have you changed your diet at all to help with your diabetes? If you are worried that you are loosing weight it might be worth increasing the amount of protein rich foods such as meat, fish, cheese, eggs etc or maybe a trip to chat to your GP or nurse?

Thanks all, much appreciated just weighed in at 78kilos,will try and stop itgoing down!

Is the on the go intentional or are jittery on the go as if you must do something?
I was wondering about a slightly over active thyroid.
It could just be the fact that you are busier then you realise thus more active.
