I was shocked when I read the carb count on the packaging of an "Unearthed Chorizo Omelette" on Friday. It stated that the carb was 33.8 per 100g, I knew this to be wrong as the other plain omelette that they market is 33g for the whole thing, total weight 300g! As a heavy insulin user it meant that if I had followed the carb count on the packaging I would have had a massive hypo 2 hours post prandial, instead of 8.5 units I would have bolused for 25 units! :-( I have emailed their head office and they replied almost immediately; saying that a full investigation would take place and they will send me a copy of their report.

The ingredients list adds dextrin and dextrose to the chorizo omelette and chorizo has a small amount of carbs, so it is possibly higher than the standard omellets. The other listed % ingredients only add up to 84.5%, leaving 15% for onions (only amounts to 45g per unit) so doesn't add up.

Why don't you make it yourself?

I reckon a lot of carb info on packaging is wrong. 😎

I buy it purely for convenience, Packed lunch and microwave it at work. I know the carb count should have read 33.8g for 300g not per 100g as my 2 hour post prandial BS was spot on.

.....It's certainly made me wonder now! A little inaccuracy is acceptable I suppose.

Just an update, I had a letter from unearthed as well as £30 John Lewis vouchers 🙂 they are removing the product nationally before addressing the incorrect labelling.
