My 16 year old son has recently been diagnosed as having type 1diabetes. He has just woken up vomiting...blood sugar is 10.9. Ketones 0.2.....giving him water....is there anything else to do....presumably could just be vomiting bug

How worrying for you. I hope it is just a tummy bug.
How is your son sow.

I am no expert ok, so I do not know if it is wise or not to suggest waiting a little while before calling for help for your son, but I will say If your worried or your son gets any worse then please don’t hesitate to phone for urgent help , Imo a situation like this I would not be concerned about shouting fire when it turned out later their wasn’t one.

I found this graph for T1 sick day rules
Type1_Sick_day_rules_InsulinV3.

When you can, Please let us know how your son is.

With a reading of 10.9 and 0.2 ketones I would say that his vomiting is not diabetes related but it will affect his BG levels. The DAFNE advice is to ensure that he drinks sugar free fluids .... ie no fruit juice.... at least 100mls every hour to prevent dehydration and check BG and ketones every 4-6 hours. If BG is above range make suitable corrections with Quick Acting insulin... ie NovoRapid or equivalent and consider increasing Basal (slow acting) insulin by 1-2 units if he is ill for more than one day. There are other instructions for if ketone levels become more significant (>1.5mmol )but it is more complicated and I would recommend getting in touch with your diabetes team or going to A&E if that situation occurs.
Monitoring his BG and ketones and making sure that he stays hydrated is the simple and important basic level advice.
If he is unable to keep fluids down then you will need to contact your health care team as dehydration is a serious issue with high BG levels.

How is he now? I use the buccal anti sickness tablets when I have a sickness bug and they're really effective, you can buy then over the counter.

@Dicmaule . How is your son, I really hope it wasn’t what you feared.
