I frequently receive a health magazine which advertises their range of vitamins/supplements (it is a reputable one but not sure if i can mention the name of it so won't just in case not allowed) but this time it is advertising a vitamin/supplement which is apparently good for the heart and it contains plant sterols and garlic combination, a high dose of omega 3 fish oil, Co -enzyme Q10 and an intensive cardio-vitamin complex. Would any of you consider buying this?

Personaly and speaking for myself not unless it was really needed. I try to eat a balanced diet andh opefully get everything I need from that. I can only speak for myself and we are all different.

I'm with Caroline, really.

But, if you don't like particular foods which give you certain minerals and vitamins, then supplements are a boon. So I don't knock them. 🙂

I too try and ensure my diet is balanced rather than taking suppliments. I would be very wary of companies promoting the health benefits of their general vitamin suppliments.

If you are worried about whether or not your diet contains the right amount of vitamins/minerals or you have concerns about a specific aspect of your health than discuss this with your GP. If you are deficient in a particular vitamin or mineral then it is better to identify this and take a specific suppliment rather than taking a general multivitamin/suppliment and risk toxicity of something else.

For example, I know that I am vitamin D deficient (just haven't got round to going to the GP to get formal diagnosis/prescription of suppliments). However I would not want to take an over the counter multi vitamin as I only want the vitamin D not everything else.

Q enzyme 10 - my husband was recommended this as hisdad died of a heart attack aged 50. He is now 53. It is good for diabetics. for the lifeof me can't remember why - I do take it (have to forgive me, have the flu so bit muddled) but it is VERY expensive, so every other day.

CoQ10

There is no reason to take CoQ10 unless you are also taking statins. Statins lower lots of vital substances in addition to cholesterol and CoQ10 is one of them. 😱

Just read m'facts. They say it helps with all sorts of things, is made by your cells and stored in the body. Some groups of people, the elderly, people with chronic conditions, are deficint. There is no way of knowing I suppose if you are deficient, but up to 70% of those with heart disease are found to be deficient in it, so it would seem it's possible that a deficiency can lead to heart disease. Also helps with your immune syastem and stops the deposition of fatty deposits in heart muscle.
