What (if any) vitamins and food supplementts do you take each day and are they helpful to you.

I take

Ferroglobin for iron, B13, B16
Immunace to help my immune system
Osteocare for bone strengthening
D3 & K2 vitamin D3,K2 to help my immune system
Plant Sterol a natural statin with no side effects to help lower my cholesterol
Polyphenol tablets for neurone improvement
And... excerice and a healthier diet.

Have I found them helpful? I have to say yes as the blood tests that the NHS have done have shown that all my 'levels' have returned to a good state but the cholesterol they said was slightly high at 5.0 which is why I am now taking the plant sterol. No way will I now take the Atorvastin as was originally prescribed (side effects). And I have to say a definite yes because I feel so well, full of energy, fit (lost a huge amount of weight too).

In fact, I find it fascinating that if our bodies fail, we then get prescibed some medicines. They may have side effects for which we may get prescribed more medicines. They may have side effects.....

It can be very hard to challenge the huge enterprises that run this life model. But then many who have diabetes become to understand their life choices better, take personal control, and steer their lives to personal success. Don't get me wrong. It can be a terrible shock to be diagnosed with diabetes (or anything else for that matter) but there are many on this web site and other places that have become healthier, happier, stronger through the overall experience.

Its a struggle for all at first but the encouraging thing I found is that there IS light at the end of the tunnel and it doesn't have to be a train comming the other way !

I exercise daily (walking, running and cycling), enjoy time outside as much as possible, eat lots of fresh fruit and veg, vary my meals (no two breakfasts are the same let alone the rest of my meals) and, touch wood, need no drugs apart from insulin and a couple of covid jabs ... and the odd glass of wine.

So far, I have not needed any vitamins or supplements to get a tick on my blood tests.

Must admit I treat them all as snake oil and would only take something if there was clear evidence, based on a blood test result, that I needed it. I would also need clear evidence that it would be effective, not some vague suggestion that it may help to achieve something equally vague.

My pharmacist niece did once tell me that most of this stuff goes in one end and out of the other with hardly any absorption en route. I'm good with that opinion.

I agree with DocB, supplements are just money down the toilet if you eat a healthy diet. They won’t do any harm at their normal dosages, because the body doesn’t use anything that’s not needed, but it’s an expensive way to make sewer rats bouncy with health.

It can be just as bad to overload the body with excess of vitamins and minerals, indeed of anything.
A ex colleague decided probiotics were good and was having 2 litres a day, needless to say he was extremely ill.
So in many cases less in more.
If you have a specific deficiency then yes, top up to what would be normal.
I have been told I have low folate, not sure why as I eat loads of green stuff and the things that have folic acid in but have folic acid pills now.
