Relationship to Diabetes

hi all

just wondering if this is even diabetes related but thought I would ask on the off chance, I have been getting visual strangeness (I did have the blurry vision and couldn't wear my glasses but that's cleared up now), its like when you look at a bright light and you get sort of after images of it in your vision, only this is sort of at the edges of my vision and I haven't been looking at any bright light this is the third time its happened in as many days, my retinopathy check was clear and my BG are in normal range, 6.3 just now about an hour and twenty minutes after eating

I hope I have explained this well enough for you to know what I'm talking about, and sorry if its a daft question but everything now makes me think could it be related to my diabetes!

thanks

That's the problem, everything is diabetes once you've been diagnosed. 🙄 I've had the blurry vision and once I had an episode where I got colourful Aztec type patterns and thought I was having a stroke...hypochondriac here. 🙂 Somebody else I know had this sort of thing the other week but they're not diabetic. You might have to go and ask the doc, put your mind at rest.

thanks for the reply I think it may have been a precursor of a bit of a migraine not had one in a few years though I don't know why I had the visual effects two days before as they usually show up with the pain
but thank you for the reply if it happens again I will bring it up with the doctor

I just saw this and was going to say that it sounds like a visual aura, pre-migraine-type symptom (I get them too :-( ). Hope you're feeling better now xx

yes I think it probably was a migraine symptom though I have never had them before where they show up a couple of days before, luckily I took some codeine as soon as the pain started and that with sleep seems to have got rid of the worst of it so feeling much better this morning

I've no idea what's going on with your sight, @purgatory. However, if I were having similar symptoms, I'd make an appointment with GP or optician. If it is migraine, then GP can diagnose and recommend treatment / management options.

Sounds like a visual migraine. I get those from time to time, usually when I'm tired or been sitting at the computer too long. Really worried me at first as I thought I might be having a stroke! 😱 However, I told my optician about the symptoms (a bit like looking through a kaleidoscope at the edges of my vision) and she identified it immediately 🙂 Now, if it happens I just close my eyes and rest for 20 minutes or so and that sorts it 🙂

I've not had a migraine in years but I did get funny lights and squiggles in my vision.... so it could be something along those lines ?

Hope you sort it out. See your doc if it keeps happening. Stress would bring on a migraine for me....

Good Luck,

Shoran

thanks for the concern guys, I do believe it was a migraine just didn't think of it as I haven't had an episode in a few years now and I have never had the visual effects without having the migraine too and these visual auras I was having two days before!
anyway I will keep an eye on it but hopefully that is the last I will see of it, I had thought I was free of them having not had one in so long wishful thinking I guess
