Virtual feet?

Well, well, I've just had a letter offering me a podiatry appointment at my local place, and to phone them or email to book. Please note (it says) it could either be a face to face or virtual appointment. If I don't respond within 2 weeks they will take me off their books.

I'd like to still have the option of future appointments, but how on earth do they 'virtually' check feet and tickle them? About as well as eye screening places virtually check eyes, I imagine! 😱

Anyone else had a virtual foot appointment - how did it go? Was it worth it...?
 
Why not ring and enquire?When I had the call from my Diabetic Nurse that was supposed to be a phone appointment, the first thing she said it can't be a phone appointment, then gave me a face to face appointment for the following week, and the week after a phone appointment with the blood results.

That literally just heppened to me a couple of hours ago. Had the appointment for my first meeting with the diabetic nurse for the 9th of october, it gradually got rescheduled and rescheduled to 5th of Nov, all the time I am being told it will be a phone interview and she will call me, then 5th comes and no phone call. 11 in the morning today I get a phonecall from my GP asking why I missed the appointment, I ask what do you mean miss? I was told she'd call me." and then I am told to go in to the diabetic nurse on the 10th.

I was told it was going to be over the phone 4 times though, which is the strange part. If they'd got it wrong just the once maybe but...

I initially declined an appointment when I first rang and I did query with the receptionist. I knew it could not all be done over the phone.

I suspect we will quickly get used to all sorts of different styles of appointment and checkups
 
It is an interesting/baffling concept a virtual foot review isn’t it!

I got my first high risk podiatry appointment since February today in the post. Scanned through and saw the date then the type of appointment ‘telephone review’. Like you I am so tempted to say no thanks but I don’t want to be taken off the list.

It’s in 2 weeks so I’ll update on findings!

Can you not phone them up to confirm whether it is in fact a phone interview or just mismanaged? It doesn't seem like they should take you off the waiting list for merely asking.

Yes, I shall ring them next week and ask what they are actually offering. The appointments are very intermittent anyway, and I leap to attend appointments every time one is offered! One podiatrist I saw about a year or so ago said (with apologies) that they had a huge backlog. I don't have foot problems really, but it's good to be seen by a proper podiatrist for foot-tickling and checks.

In this area you can only be seen by the NHS podiatrist if you are classed as high risk.

That's interesting - when I wanted to see a podiatrist about a thing on my foot I had to fill in a self-referral form, and it took an age to get an appointment at a local NHS clinic. Since then I've seen them at irregular intervals (whenever an appointment letter turned up!) when they've scraped the thing on my foot, checked the pulse and tickled them. The thing on my foot has now got better but I'd still like to take up the appointment while it's being offered. Some years ago I had surgery on both feet for severe bunions, so they've looked at that too.

It has been like this for at least 16 years.
 
I have had a face to face D review appointment confirmed during this lockdown, as with the numbness in my leg they want me to get my feet checked. I was surprised and we discussed whether it would be better to do it over the phone with the nurse telling me what to check.

I do wonder how they will do the tickling with a little sensor thing, and feeling the pulse, over the phone... Mr Marten has just reminded me that after Moorfields cancelled his last eye appointment they sent him a letter recently saying that they are going to phone him on Tuesday. To do what, I wonder? :confused:
 
Today was my podiatrist appointment and was indeed face to face with a young and enthusiastic student and his mentor. Student did the foot tickling etc, and was chatty and keen. He also tested the blood supply to my feet with a doppler(?) machine, like a small ultrasound test in pregnancy, and said how strong the supply was, and my pulse and so on 🙂 Mentor said I could be discharged now cos of my good control but to book online if I developed any problem.

All in all, a good appointment - and the student shows real promise!
 
My appointments have all been phone and video, you just visually check your feet yourself, as well as feeling them, and let them know if any problems.

A bit like Mr Marten's cancelled eye appointment at Moorfields. When they rang they asked if he had any further problems... 'no' was the answer.
