Wednesday 19th December 2007 at about this time I was being prepped for surgery. Distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy. Spent a few days in ICU then in a room on my own, hooked up to all sorts, because of risk of infection. Christmas Day my family made the 120 mile round trip to see me. I didn’t feel too well ( understatement!). I don’t think I ate any Christmas dinner but my surgeon came to see me, resplendent in festive sweater. I had a few set backs and eventually was released because of good behaviour on 8th January. Had 5 months off work and then had phased return.
Now look at me 10 years on, still here and loving life on the whole, just need Mr Eggy sorted out! Yes I am an insulin dependent diabetic and take at least 20 tablets a day, mostly to stop me pooing through the eye of a needle but I am in rude health and considering I am spleenless, barely even get a cold! I know I am one of the lucky ones and I thank my lucky stars everyday. So a big cheer to Mr Byron Jaques and his fabulous team at The Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. :D

Here's to the next 10 years and more Eggyg. Glad you are here.

This must be a very special anniversary for you. I wish you many decades of them.

A day to remember, indeed! Here's to many, many more anniversaries to come! 🙂 I hope Mr Eggy gets things sorted soon, so that he can be celebrating a similar anniversary in 10 years time 🙂

Thanks for all your lovely comments, coincidentally, I was going out for lunch with three of my dearest friends who supported myself and my family through that period in my life. I had a lovely meal, smoked haddock soufflé and turkey dinner. No pud, not because I was feeling pious but was stuffed! Had a couples of glasses of fizz as well. So good day was had. Then when I got home Mr Eggy informed me he had got a cancellation for a consultion at The Freeman tomorrow morning, so will be back at my old stomping ground!! :D😉

Fantastic hospital Hobie. 4 months after my op Mr Eggy had a quadruple bypass there. We were a right pair at that time! Got to the stage where we could have driven there with our eyes closed, not to be recommended! The A69 is not my favourite road and not looking forward to going tomorrow 5 days before Christmas, will set off early. Thanks for your best wishes.
