i was diagnosed in hospital last week with DKA having never suffered with diabetes before this was a shock and I was very ill. I was diagnosed in 2012 with carcinoid cancer due to tumour on my pancreas with was removed only leaving a small tail end of pancreas the cancer spread to the liver but has been kept under control by injections for 4 years. But for the last four weeks I have had no strength or energy, drinking lots of water and passing water a lot. This developed and to cut a long story short I am now home after 6 days on insulin pump and drips etc. I am now on 2 different types of insulin, one I have to inject 3 times a day before food and 1 nightime. I have developed swollen ankles and blurry eyes and wonder if this is normal. My blood sugars on admission was 29.7 it is now 11.1 evenings and ranges from 6.2 to 7.8 in the mornings. I am concerned about the swollen ankles which have come on today.
Sorry this is such a long message but this is all totally new to me and my family.
Thanks
Pete
