Very Confused Here About HBA1C Conversion

I got my HBA1C back today and knew it was not gonna be great.
It was 60 and according to the table on the diabetic website this would read something like 7.6 in old money.
Yet i see on a posting here someones is 40 which is 5.8.
Totally confused now????

What is confusing you Jon? 60 mmol/mol converts to a result of 7.6%, and 40 mmol/mol similarly converts to 5.8%. They introduced the new units (mmol/mol) a couple of years ago to replace the percentage, but some people (like me!) still only get given the percentage value.

You know what,i was using some very simple aritmetic to work it out and now realise i was wrong.
I was saying 40 is two thirds of 60 and was multiplying 5.8 by 3 and dividing it by 2 to get something neares 9.
Silly me.
Anyway that result is exactly the same as my last one 6 months ago.
Not good but thankfully not worse.

(New number/10.929)+2.15

And back
(Old number-2.15)x10.929

Don't think I'll be doing those calculations in my head! 😱 Jon, what you thought is perfectly logical, and given Mike's formulae you can see why so many people are perplexed when they get the new numbers when they are used to the percentages!

We will collectively have to get used to it, the same as at age 5 we had to get used to there being 12 pennies in a shlling and 20 shillings to the ?1, ergo 240 pence to the ?1 and then when we were nearly 21 they changed it.

And I was the girl who in junior school had to change the decimals to fractions in my head, to make the sum make sense.

We got used to decimal coinage alright so we'll get used to this !

Never got used to metric though! When I am running a marathon and the markers are in kilometres I have to mentally convery to miles so I know how far I have to go! 😱

I was 12 when decimal money came in - totally ruined my hobby as a numismatist!

I went to live in Germany when I had half a crown for my pocket money. Then 3 years after using deutchmark's we moved back to uk as dad posted back (in RAF). My pocket money became 25p! I'm still sure I was diddled as the large half a crown seemed more substancial than 25p.
