im suffering a bad bout of vertigo again and GP did a 'manoeuvre' this morning on my head ...anyone else suffer ?

I felt a bit nauseous and unstable yesterday afternoon but not sure if it's classed as vertigo.

I get it whenever I try to read in the car or if I lie down with my head back. eg. working under a car, etc.

I hate it but have never sought help with it. Figured it just happens now and then to most people.

Rob

mine is like im swimming in a whirlpool backwards and happens when i turn my head to the left or lookdown then suddenly up :( apparently its to do with crystals in my balance canal settling in the wrong places and nothing particularly causes it ...going to get refered to OH by work tho as i have had too much time off over sickness in the last year ummmm just what i need at the mo but heyho !

hope you can get sorted am - cant imagine anything worse than vertigo. I feel sick If I go high up and can see below xx

My Mum has suffered from similar for many years and if she hears a sudden very loud noise she will sometimes just fall to the floor it effects her balance so badly:( She has found taking the tablets that were originally prescribed for my Dads travel sickness help a lot (she has them prescribed to her now) Sorry I dont know what they are called but it might be worth you asking the doc?

Must be awful - hope you get it sorted soon

Horrid condition! First had it in my 20s and was put down to stress during the run up to my wedding. Have had it several times since and as said in earlier post is usually down to crystals 'floating' in the ear canal! I have had it so bad I vomit when I stand. Like being hugely drunk but without the alcohol! Apparently if you've had it you become pre-disposed to further attacks. You have my sympathy! Katiex

gp has prescribed buccastem which is precisely an anti sickness drug...after he did the 'manoeuvre' i was so bad sweating and thinking i might throw up all over his floor he got me one from his 'bag' I sat outside the surgery for a good 20mins and also realised cos i had rung the GPs at 8.55 to be offerd an immediate appointment 9.10...( my sugery is SO good) that i rushed out with no food in me ...kindly the nurses secretary brought me 2 digestive buscuits which did the trick ....only problem is work ...but thats another story x🙂

I have suffered for many years with vertigo (by product of M.E.) and one of the most useful things I found was Cinnarizine, which is Stugaron, across the counter. I have often been unable to move for a day or so, but it usually goes within the week.

The treatment now is for drugs which block the messages from the ear to the brain, and they are very good, but the list of side effects is interesting to say the least.

Good luck.

thanks slipper ...will check it out ..feeling a bit better but being so careful not to move head too quickly ...sort of dreading lying down tho x🙂

Yup, I have vertigo and tinnitus, which may be linked as my fasmily has a history of Meniere's Disease (interesting since it's apparently not hereditary). I'm OK most of the time but if I get up too suddenly or if I'm coming down stairs I need to be careful. First thing in the morning is bad usually and I find it's much worse when I'm stressed so relaxation techniques I've learned over the years help to keep things manageable. I haven't taken any medications for it so can't help there.

You have my sympathy, I know how horrid it can be to have your world spinning round your head. Did the manoeuvre thing help? And I love that film!

It sounds like you suffer from acrophobia (fear of heights) which causes you to feel dizzy when you look down from a high place.
