Professional sailor Adam Pereira has arrived at the Statue of Liberty becoming the first person with Type 1 diabetes to complete a transatlantic crossing on his own.

After 7 long weeks at sea and battling strong winds, 49-year-old Adam has sailed a total distance of 3,500 miles to New York. He dropped anchor off Liberty Island on Saturday (5th August) at 07:29 in the morning.

A truly unique challenge, Adam set off for New York from the Royal London Yacht Club in Cowes on Saturday 17th June to fundraise for Diabetes UK as part of Diabetes Week. After reaching the New York coast Adam is now heading straight back home to complete his trip and hopes to arrive in Cowes by early September.

He made it! 🙂 Well done Adam 🙂

Aye, well done. Bit daft coming back the same way, though, I would have thought that was a bit of a risk. Still, he's got the wind behind him.🙂

Yes, well done that man! 🙂

Wow! What a feat!😛 I'm impressed with his one-way trip...I'm super-impressed that he's sailing back too!
