I hate high blood sugars!! last night was awful before bed i was 20..because i had a cheeky pudding!! so i gave myself a few units to help me sleep ( I dont know about others but I can never sleep with a high blood sugar).. I was silly cuz i didnt eat anythiing after.. I thought I would be okay because I only had like 3 units.. anyway I woke up at midnight and did a bloodtest and i was 30 :( so im guessing i had a hypo in my sleep and my liver gave sugar to my brain! I did an injection had a snack and woke up and i was 15! so not brilliant but better.. considering my average morning blood test is 9.
Last 3 days i seem to have high sugarss blurgggh todays been better
If i go to bed and im above 17 i will give my self an injectiion because otherwise I cant sleep

Hi Claire, sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your levels :( Do you know how much a unit will normally lower your levels by? For me, a unit will normally lower my levels by around 3 mmol/l, and at night I would be extra cautious so that I didn't drop too low. How long after injecting did you wake at 30, and how long was this after you ate your pudding? You might still have been climbing. You shouldn't need to eat anything extra when you are correcting a high - I would discuss the proper approach to correcting highs with your nurse.

Obviously, the best thing is to try and get your evening meal dose established better so that you do not climb so high before bed that you need another injection. I usually try to eat/inject at least 5 hours before going to bed so that I can be pretty sure that my levels are unlikely to fall further through the night.

Well I had my dinner about quarter to 7..I then went to bed like 9pm and then at midnight i was 30 xx

Your mealtime insulin should still have been working to bring your levels down at 9pm. What insulin do you use? If you still had a lot of insulin working to lower your levels and then you added more to correct the 20 then it is quite possible that you had a hypo and rebounded, but it is difficult to say for sure. What was your level before eating?

19... I still find it difficult to know what to give :(:(:( Ive been diabetic for 10 years ..

If you still have the pudding packaging, or can look at another one in the shop i'd be interested to know what it says on the packet for carbs.

I have a feeling you were still climbing during the night, maybe your background isn't right. I have a feeling it wasn't a hypo situation, but it's difficult to tell without more information.
