Subject: URGENT PRODUCT RECALL FREESTYLE TEST STRIPS
Dear Healthcare Professional,
Abbott Diabetes Care has made Insulet and Ypsomed aware that FreeStyle? test strips, when used with FreeStyle? Blood Glucose Meters, FreeStyle Flash? Blood Glucose Meters and the FreeStyle? meter built into the mylife™ OmniPod? System, may produce erroneously low blood glucose results. Erroneously low results that are not recognized may pose significant risks to your patients’ health.
Attached is an important Urgent Product Recall Communication from Abbott Diabetes Care regarding this matter that is in the process of being communicated to patients as of this afternoon..
How does Abbott Diabetes Care’s recall affect your patients using the mylife™ OmniPod??
Your patients are affected by this recall due to the FreeStyle? Blood Glucose Meter built into their mylife™ OmniPod? Personal Diabetes Manager (PDM), which in combination with the affected FreeStyle? test strips may produce erroneously low blood glucose results. Patients should immediately discontinue use of FreeStyle? test strips with the FreeStyle? meter built into the mylife™ OmniPod? system.
How can your patients receive unaffected test strips to continue using the FreeStyle? meter integrated with the mylife™ OmniPod? System?
We have worked with Abbott Diabetes Care to establish a Customer Care phone line (0500 467 466) which patients can call to obtain unaffected test strips from Abbott directly at no cost until Abbott Diabetes Care has resolved the issues affecting the FreeStyle? test strip and can supply all channels with unaffected strips.
Can patients continue to safely use the mylife™ OmniPod? System?
Yes. Patients can safely continue to use the mylife™ OmniPod? System for their insulin delivery needs. This product recall is only pertaining to FreeStyle? test strips.
What should I do if I, someone in my office or my patients continue to have questions?
For questions about the recall, please call the Abbott Diabetes Care Customer Service at 0500 467 466. For questions or concerns with the continued use of your mylife™ OmniPod? Insulin Management System, contact Ypsomed UK Customer Care on 0800 092 6787
We are continuing to work closely with Abbott Diabetes Care to ensure a timely resolution and the best possible solution for our mylife™ OmniPod? users.

Hi Is this recall for all Freestyle test strips ?? I use Freestyle light
thanks

Abbott do not seem to be doing well, they had a recall in Nov last year as well for inaccurate results.!! How is anyone notified of this recall? through your pharmacy ( a bit late perhaps).

I got a signed-for letter couriered to me yesterday. The strips aren't faulty, it's their older meters (e.g. Freestyle Mini, which we used to have). He's got Freestyle Lites at the moment, which apparently work fine. 🙂
