I've been looking forward to a residential craft conference and spent quite a bit of money on it.
I made arrangements with the organiser so I could have food suitable to my diet (it is a buffet catering system and mostly bread and pastries and crisps and cakes ! )
My husband even decided to come with me and bought a little plug in coolbox so we could take some of my staples with me.

Then today I read on Facebook that a few of the other attendees would be coming along with active colds and coughs.
It isn't the sort of event where you can stay away from people - there are classes and people will be in close proximity to each other in closed spaces.

I could be brave about attending if I thought that people would stay home if they had colds and flu which may or may not be THE lurgy - but if people are going to come along and cough and sneeze knowing the situation and risks I feel that is too much worry to cope with.

My husband is now trying to see what can be done. Basically the event organisers are saying that if the government doesn't say to cancel then they won't and neither will they give refunds to people in at risk groups and we should try and sell our ticket and room online. The event is tomorrow.

Just fed up and feeling really disappointed and bad for making a fuss.

One way to think about it is that the risk of picking up the Lurgy is very small. I'm guessing, but its probably less than the risk of you having a road accident driving there and getting killed or seriously injured.

I feel we have much more control over having a road accident because we've been in loads of near misses and because my husband reads the road well in advance my husband is very skilled at avoiding serious consequences from other people's bad driving. We even had a tyre blow out once but because he chose good tyres and a car with various safety features and always drives where possible with an emergency pathway planned out it didn't cause anything other than the inconvenience of being broken down for a while.
It's the people stating that they are going and will be coughing and sneezing and have had or have infections and viruses that bothers me. I don't go shopping and out and about so I have next to no immunity. Whether it is the actual virus or 'just a cold/flu' I don't want to be ill because people can't stay home when they know they are infectious.

I reckon anyone who has a cough or a cold at the moment should self isolate. They may not feel particularly unwell, but that is a characteristic of a mild coronavirus infection. I had a cold last week, no cough but I just didn't go out. because of my symptoms, which I am certain weren't coronovirus, I cried off a non urgent CT scan and a consultant diabetes appointment. Anyone who does appear at a public gathering with symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection is putting other people in danger, or at least in a state of fear or anxiety, and contravening government advice. I suggest you contact the organisers.

The number of positive tests is increasing in manner that it will become exponential, so I expect your gathering will be forbidden in any event. The worst thing will be the possibility of Saturday's Rovers game being played behind closed doors or postponed.😳

Have spoken to the organisers and they are going ahead. They've posted a notice to make it a no-touch event and listed precautions they are taking but person after person is now posting to say they won't be attending. Not the coughy sneezy ones with colds though - they are still coming. I don't think it is sheer coincidence that once that thread went up with people announcing their URTIs then the cancellations started happening.

Might be wind up, not saying is just some folk like to spread fear, they get kick out of it.

In cafe yesterday, old dear behind coughing for england, sometimes you just cant avoid coming into contact with bugs viruses, unless shutting yourself away that is.

No it wasn't a wind up. The OP was very long and well thought out and the community is a close knit one and we all know each other or have connections through people we know. It is just how some people are. I'm coming down off the ceiling now. It could be worse. At least I had the money to spend and lose. The organisers are having a horrible time with it all and the implications for them are bad because it is their livelihood being impacted. They are a good company and I feel for them.

Well it's that last bit - the way this 'Thing' affects absolutely every single human being AND everything they do whether work or play - that is so frightening about it. The consequences.

I used to have that too grovesy and I was lucky to find out it was mainly house dust mites so I just spread diatomataceous earth very carefully around the house - let it lie for a few hours and then hoover it up and since I've been doing that once or twice a year it has cleared up mostly. Oh and a dose of One a Day during the pollen season.

Unfortunately I am allergic to more than house dust mites. I even had desensitization injections back in the early 70's, before it was it was stopped being used. I then developed Asthma aswell within 10 years. I was aware the effect might not last as my GP at the time also worked at the local ENT hospital.
I use a nasal spray and antihistamine daily.

One of the absolutely worst places harbouring house dust mites is beds!

Years ago I happened to read that expose bed and bedding to daylight kills em before vacuuming them up - hence I make sure I do that even though neither of us appears to be allergic to them.

As always you are the voice of reason Mikey. I have said before this virus, one reason I take so much time off sick is people come into work with coughs and colds, I catch that virus but what is a simple virus for them is a big deal for me and often ends up with a chest infection.

I really do think in this current climate people saying they have coughs and colds but still intend to go to the course are irresponsible. This virus will bring out the best in some people and the worst I others.

I said to massage therapist this morning was there away she could do my back without lying on my front as lying face down on her couch, sets my nose off running. She did so with my lying on my side. She knows this I was not spinning a line.

Well I managed to sell the room at a slight profit of thirty quid extra (accidentally - I genuinely thought I was offering it at a lower price than I'd paid) and the event ticket I lost £550 on!!!

But I am glad I made the decision as other people have since said they will be coughing but not to worry they are just getting over a cold!!!

People are so thoughtless.

Still the person I sold the ticket to for £100 lives locally to the event and would otherwise never have been able to afford to attend so fingers crossed she will be okay and will have a nice time.

I’m glad you managed to do that much. I know it’s horrid to miss out on something you’d been looking forward to. I hope you have a lovely weekend at home.

Thank you.
I am probably going to do beading and learning to improve my pearl skills.
It is time I learned how to string them properly. been putting them on gold vermeil so far which is lovely but expensive.
