Update on my recent diagnoses of t2

I have gleaned all my info from the forum. I have not seen a dietician. I was told my cholestral was a bit high. If yours isn't a fry up without baked beans or hash browns is good. I buy Greek yoghurt usually from M and S when I am in the city. But have had Greek style from lidl and yeo from Tesco. The suggestion on the forum is low fat can have other nasties added. I have blueberries raspberries or blackberries. Tropical fruits though yummy have a bit too much sugar.

Ive posted this link before. It has links to useful websites and videos all in one place. You have probably already checked freshwell out. I used to like porridge but haven't got round to testing how it affects me. I have bought some pasta alternatives from Holland and Barrett.

Thanks for the link I hadn’t seen it before it’s very interesting and useful

Hi @Winifreds child, first things first and from what you have posted, you have no need to panic as you have done all the right things. Now and I'm jumping in here, but if you have just done a finger prick test and it read 5.2 even allowing for error, that is a great result. My norm in the morning (fasting) is 5.6 which is good (not on any meds) and in my opinion would be considered in the normal range (just). I only test in the mornings just to get a trend.

Lastly, be kind to yourself, you are doing very well
Thank you I will try a morning test as that is when I have the one at the doctors..I had wondered about that…thank you for your kind words and encouragement it helps a lot

@Leadinglights if its 10% Greek yoghurt you want, I cannot praise the one that Costco does. I am a regular buyer of at least six large pots every time I go.

@Winifreds child I managed to lose a lot of weight by going overboard on the reducing carbs activity. I was supposed to be doing less than 130g but ended up doing about 50g or less. The weight fell away very swiftly. My suggestion would be that if you do want to move the weight quicker than the current rate, reducing the carbs further without increasing protein and fat may help, but it carries its own risks. My other, far safer suggestion is to ask to be referred to the practice nutritionist or well being person. The one I saw was quite helpful especially in advising on the issue of eggs (which I hate unless cooked in a cake or bread).

I used to buy the Cosco one but I found it a bit too thick but might give it another try.

That’s useful to know about the carbs because my weight loss seems to be stuck and even if I do a couple of pounds per week I feel a bit more positive…I do like eggs so that’s good and they are so quick it’s a shame you don’t like them …thanks for the information

I did the test it was 5.2 two and a half hours after food maybe not the best time…it didn’t hurt I can do it again without all the fuss I made my hands warm first these tips are helpful thanks for the advice it’s much appreciated

Well done @Winifreds child - and what a cracking result. That’s a House Special on the 7 Day Waking Average thread :D

Getting the finger-pricker depth set as shallow as you need it really helps to keep the pain-level down. And I agree, it’s nothing like as painful as catching your finger with a pin/sewing needle.

It’s pretty common for weight loss to ebb and flow. We rarely gain or lose weight at consistent rates, and the body can optimise energy use and/or put off some tasks if it thinks food is in short supply. I like the image of food energy and weight being more like household finances than a simple piece of mathematics. Keep sticking to your diet, and eventually your body will end up at the weight that that energy intake means for you. 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement it’s welcomed

Regarding your cold it may not be the diabetes, it could just be your immune system is down making you more susceptible. Most people cop for them at this time of year. Sounds like you are getting on well. Good luck with the diabetic nurse. Things are certainly going the right way.

I use full fat (10%) Greek yoghurt but there is a difference in flavour and texture depending on the make so you may need to try a few before finding one you like best. I actually prefer the ASDA one though the ALDI comes in second, I tried the LIDL one but found it a bit too thick.
The other thing to try are their protein yoghurts which are both low carb and low fat or the Kvarg deserts also low carb and low fat available in various flavours.
The standard time to test is after 2 hours from the start of eating. If you want to find the effect your meal has on blood glucose level then pairs of readings are the most useful so just before eating and after 2 hours.
Well done forgiving it a go.
Never heard of the Kvarg desserts but then I don't shop at Aldi. Do you know if any other supermarkets sell them? I do have a local Aldi though so could have a look there.

The Kvarg deserts are in ASDA,TESCO, I'm not sure about Sainsbury. ALDI have the Brooklea protein yoghurts or mousses.

Thank you for that. I shop in quite a large Tesco so will take a look. There is an ASDA nearby. Suppose I don't bother looking at desserts as thought there would not be any low carb ones.

A small chocolate eclair is only 10g carbs, so nice to have as an occasional treat.
