You may remember some weeks ago I posted about a good friend of mine who had all the warning signs and symptoms but was very nervous about visiting the GP.

Well I'm very proud to say we went along last week, and yesterday she received the 'official' diagnosis with an HBA1c of around 9.8.

Obviously I'm not thrilled she has Diabetes, but I am chuffed that she's dealing with it head on and have no doubt that she will take it by the scruff of the neck and make the necessary changes to manage it well. She's equally as stubborn and determined as me!

She's currently devouring my dog-eared Gretchen book, and I know she is lurking on these forums so hopefully will join in soon. Her husband did joke that they'd sent me 3 months in advance to do a recce and master Diabetes so I could share my knowledge! I'm just pleased I can help as I remember the early days and my belief that I would never 'understand it' well.

I'm currently on a daily basis telling her she won't know how sh!t she's been feeling lately until she starts feeling better, and in just a few weeks she can feel as good as me 🙂 I've also devised our early joint exercise plan which involves mainly window shopping around various town centres and outlet villages - a good 6 hours of walking around each time!

Thanks for listening xx

Not great news that your fears proved correct, but excellent that she wasn't left undiagnosed possibly for much longer, with all the potential risks that would have brought - well done you for recognising the signs and persuading her to seek help! 🙂 (I love the idea of you being sent to check things out first! :D)

She will be very welcome here, and I'm sure that, with your help, she will be feeling the benefits of a return to full health very soon - as you say, she probably doesn't realise how much better she will feel in the not too distant future!

AGree having diabetes is not great news, but your friend is now diagnosed and will be able to deal with it. With you on her side having done the recce first, she will know how welcome we will make her when she decided to join. If she is reading this Hello and welcome to our community.

Twinkle sorry to hear about your freinds diagnosis as has already been said she is more then welcome to join this forum you can tell her just how good we are :D

Sounds like you've got it all worked out Twinkle and you'll be able to help each other a lot. We'll look forward to seeing your friend join us as soon as she's ready.

The one thing worse than getting a diabetic diagnosis is being an un diagnosed diabetic. At least now she knows what she's dealing with and can make the necessary changes to improve things. Well done to you for recognising your freinds' symptoms and well done to her for going and getting checked out. I'm sure you'll be a great support to each other now, and I hope she comes and joins us on here. * Hello Twinkle's friend* XXXXX
