i bought my son a freestyle libre starter pack with sensors last week - cost £133 - unfortunately he is absolutely not interested in trying it out .is anyone interested in taking it off my hands ( all boxes unopened) - any reasonable offer considered ! Hope this post is ok

That's a real shame Carol :( I hope someone takes you up on your offer so you don't lose out.

Thanks Alan , to be honest , even apart from money I spent , it's a shame for them to be wasted . He said he didn't want to wear anything on his arm all the time , what do I know??

Silly boy, he wouldn't even know it was there! 🙄 I bet if it was fashionable amongst his friends to wear something stuck on your arm, he'd want one! 🙂

I'm interested. I was given a handset by my doctor and it would be good to be able to give it back to him. (Very confusing the way I got mine and now I can't buy the starter pack).

Will pm you.

I don't want to rain on anyone's BBQ, but for those who aren't already registered with Abbott, I don't know how this would go down, if the buyer needed any support, should, by some piece of rotten luck the reader or sensors happened to be defective. I don't know. Mir could well be fine now there is no longer a waiting list.

@CarolK , although the sensor should really be applied to the arm, there are a number of folks, who post on another forum with a couple of very long Libre threads, who have their sensors on their thigh, tummy or chest. The vast majority have no issues in the alternative locations. Could that appeal to your son? The Libre gives a wonderful insight into the otherwise "silent" times, like when we're asleep or very busy during our days.

Just for the avoidance of doubt; I am a part-time Libre user, but couldn't have an interest in this potential bargain as I overseas for a few months at the moment.

I am registered with Abbott.

I was loaned a handset and sensor by my consultant. But the sensor was faulty. I contacted the freestyle people and they put me on their system. This was last year when There was a waiting time. I basically cheated the system. But, due to the fact that I was therefore registered, I never got to have the starter pack. I keep meaning to buy a new meter, but with the meter costing the same price as a sensor, I've not got round to it. But I've bought plenty of sensors from them since.

I do agree that if you can convince your son, he will benefit greatly.

I can see this system taking off big time soon. With sensors coming down in price and technology improving by the day it wont be long when we are all using them. I can see the monitor looking out for lows and an alarm telling us to do something about it.

My daughter is not feeling very well today, and the Libre is a godsend for keeping an eye on her blood sugars without having to do endless finger pricks!

@CarolK , I'm not suggesting your son is non-compliant when out of your sight. How could I? But, is his reluctance more due to the "electronic tagging by Mum" than the high tech sensor. Many young lads might be quite excited about having a very high tech gizmo not available to their buddies, but I guess they're just as different as the rest of us can be. 🙂

Hi all , thanks for all your concerns , but my son is 27 and well able to make his own decisions . I bought it as I had heard very good things , however if he doesn't want to use it I can't really force him to . I was equally as concerned ( apart from the wasted money ) as to the libre just lying in the box being wasted . Obviously if there was a problem in someone else buying it ( with registration etc) I will just keep hold of it .

I realise it's a bit of a long shot on a diabetes forum as most people probably already have it but you may know someone. So, is anyone interested in taking my T1 diabetes off my hands? It's fairly well used by now but good for a few years yet, ....at least 10 by all accounts. You can have it for free and I'll chuck in a Libre. 🙂

What you need to do is send it away for a break...

Go away! Take a break! Go on holiday!
I’m sure you’d like time on your own!
And I wouldn’t mind if you left for a while –
So go on! Just leave me alone!

For it seems you’ve become too dependent,
And it’s putting me in a bad mood!
I’d just like a day with you out of the way,
I hope you don't think that I'm rude!

There ought to be somewhere to send you,
Like the kennels where you might send a pet…
Yes, a kennel for chronic diseases!
But I don’t think there are any yet…

I’m sure if there were they’d make money,
For I know many others would pay
To leave you in the care of another,
Though we might not return straight away…!

I imagine, in the future it will happen
When diseases will all be retired,
They’ll live out their days sat on petri dish trays
Till the very last one has expired!

:D

If it's unopened you should be able to send it back for a refund under the distance selling regs.

Can't do it with mine Deus - I've had it 44 years nearly and it's been used anyway. And also abused sometimes!

Oh - sorry! - you were talking about the Libre - not our T1 !

Thanks , that's really useful to know , if all else fails I will try that

Be quick though - you must do it within 2 week:

http://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/terms-and-conditions.html

If you decide that you do not wish to keep the sensors and reader(s) that you ordered, you are entitled to cancel the contract within 14 days of delivery of your order to you.

If you wish to return unopened sensors and/or readers to Abbott as set out above, please print a returns label from the Abbott Website, available here and return the sensors/reader(s) using the freepost return label.

If you return the sensors/reader(s) within 14 days, unopened, Abbott will refund the full purchase price to you and the delivery costs.

Just to add that the Libre 'waiting list' and pre-registration email list are no more you can now just order on the freestylelibre.co.uk website. I don't believe there would be any problems with people buying extra sensors.

Just out of curiosity I googled the Libre gadget as I had no idea what it was or did - Why would you not want to wear it!!!! 🙄
