I don’t do hypos, luckily. I’ve had a handful in the 6 years I’ve been on insulin and wasn’t keen so have avoided them! Yesterday I made a mathematical error when bolusing for lunch. Made worse by being released from walker’s prison and just returning from a 3.5 mile ( slow) walk. I was preparing our tea about 5.30 when I started to feel really nauseous and generally squiffy. I ignored it and carried on, then the shakes arrived. I managed to test, 4.4, that’s fine my addled brain thought. Then it all went Pete Tong. Felt worse, shouted for Mr Eggy who was upstairs. No answer, shouted again.By this time I was angry, but instead of testing or even telling him I thought I was hypo I just shouted at him to help me, then daughter number two and family turned up to borrow her dad’s Karcher, then the phone rang. Daughter number one, by this time I couldn’t string two words together and had to confess I was going hypo, Mr Eggy said get some jelly babies, I screamed no, I feel sick. Daughter and family looking at me as if I was a mad woman, tatties boiling dry, chicken getting burnt and me being very unlike me. Eventually I ripped open a packet of JBs, and here is when I know I wasn’t right, I ate a RED jelly baby! Yuk! Mr Eggy trying to get me to sit down, I was insisting I carried on making the tea. OMG! It was like a Carry On film! The JB started to work and calm was restored. I apologised when my mouth started to work properly. I was flummoxed as to why it happened as I’m usually so careful but I know what I did, I just miscalculated by 1 unit. I don’t want to feel like that again, I can only presume I plummeted pretty quick from the 4.4 as I was still only 4.8 after the JB and mashed potatoes! Kudos to you all who unfortunately suffer them more regularly. I’m going to start using a calculator rather than my old brain!

Oops! Poor you, it’s horrible when your brain starts off on a frolic of its own, I’ve had hypos where I’ve behaved perfectly logically (so I thought) until I’ve been describing what happened, and I can see the family making eye contact and shaking their heads!
Now if I was acting out of character, I'd have gone for the disgusting green jelly baby..(don’t want to revive that debate again!)
You were probably dropping quite fast, I always find the symptoms are much worse in that situation, than when I’m just bumbling along a flatter line, but slightly in the red.

Sounds like horrible experience!

Hope you feel okay now?

Sorry to hear of your hype experience. Hope you are feeling ok now.

ROFL - sorry eggs, it's the way you tell em!

Seriously eventually T1s learn whenever we feel , well just ? let alone ??? - it is absolutely 110% essential to test our blood. I've got to the stage in my life when I'm relieved if the BG says I'm a bit low cos I know how to stop that!

Thanks for your concern folks. I’m absolutely tickety boo today, hypo wise that is. Got tummy problems at the moment, have had it all week, TBF I’ve had problems for 12 years since they whipped the ol’ pancreas out, but this is gradually getting worse. Eating Creon like it’s going out of fashion and I think that’s part of the problem with the BG, my digestive system is shot at and it’s a bit harder to control my levels. Yesterday was particularly bad, I did remark to Mr Eggy after trip number 5 to the loo before 9 o’clock yesterday morning, “I don’t know why I’m not 6 stone!” TMI? :D

So sorry to hear you had a hypo Elaine. It does sound like a bit of a comedy sketch though! Good to hear that you are back on form now.
I agree with @Robin that you were probably dropping quickly rather than it being a desperately low hypo, but that can be worse.
I remember the first few I had and how scary they were and how zonked I was afterwards, but I now find that, because I am more used to them, my system doesn't panic so much and I am able to deal with them and carry on without too much problem at all. If I have been persistently high for several days, I sometimes almost find it a relief to have a little hypo although that certainly doesn't mean I would actively aim for one of course. It does help with my confidence to use insulin when they don't scare me so much anymore.

@eggyg I'm sorry I know I shouldn't laugh but I cant help it, glad you managed to recover well, I don't agree with the red being awful though :D I remember one hypo I had my vision went and I asked Bruce to get my jelly babies, you know someone cares about you when they arrive in front of you with the bag and say "what colour do you want" haha xx

I don’t mind you laughing at all, it does sound funny now. Once I’d had my chicken, veg and extra dollop of mashed tatties I was fine!
PS my fave are the green ones! Second yellow, third orange, but they only give you about one, at a push red, black....NEVER!

Maybe we should have a central Forum JB exchange, where the greens could be swapped with the red/black etc.

My old boss only wanted green ones and always decapitated them first off, as he said it was more humane!

The black are the only ones I'm not keen on - orange is always my favourite unless it's fruit gums when the blackcurrant are just The Best.
