Unexpected huge jump in BP (now in A&E)

Hope they get things sorted out and that you're soon feeling much better.

Really sorry to hear about this and wishing you a speedy recovery from whatever is ailing you.
Regards, Chris

Sounds like you have been through the mill recently. I hope the hospital gets to the cause of your horrendous BP. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and to get back home to your own bed to rest properly

Sorry to hear about this @Proud to be erratic
You sound pretty calm and engaged in people watching.
Let us know of any progress

Thanks for the ideas on emergency bag. A friend suggested that on any ward they no doubt get chargers left behind, and it might be worth asking if they have any (I know that this will understandably be low priority for them but the friend struck lucky as she had done the same and forgotten that vital bit of kit in a similar situation. )

Let us know how you get on.

I wonder if anyone has any understanding of possible connection between critically high BP and diabetes (it seems possible, according to the junior doctor who's just seen me). The unbearable pain across the shoulders is, apparently, a recognised signal by one's body to hypertensive crisis state.
I don't know what my blood sugars were at the time, but my BP was high in 2021.
At that time a nurse managed to get a BP reading of 180 / 110 out of me (I knew she was planning to draw bloods after that). But I had no pains or symptoms when I had high blood pressure.

Hopefully you will be back to normal health and back home soon.

Thank you to everyone for the kind remarks and wishes.

I got home late this afternoon, both pleased to be out of the Emergency Centre yet frustrated that no cause has been identified. I got limited feedback from the duty Dr: my ESR results had revealed nothing that would cause any concern to the Emergency team. But there was no information about anything else the ESR results might have revealed nor any suggestion about other lines to pursue to find the cause. So I was discharged with advice to go back to my GP, but to present myself back at A&E straightaway if there was a recurrence of last night.

I'm no wiser about the cause and it does feel a slightly wasted opportunity: the succession of BP checks wholly verified there was a problem; 12+ hours later I was discharged after the one blood test and less than 15 minutes total face-to-face face time with 2 Dr's from the night shift then the day shift, still with high but no longer critical BP. That said, I haven't a clue what else someone might have done or line of thought they might have pursued.

I did "miss" the joys of deciding which box needed to go where as they arrived off the delivery van. These days little of what is promised is necessarily delivered. Our effects went into 3 small containers for the forthcoming long term storage; some care was taken in the loading to keep things sorted and separated to make it easier to relocate them at the delivery point to the potential final room. Last week our 3 containers were, without our knowing or agreeing, emptied and the contents reloaded onto 2 vans. A fair amount of shuffling was done in the process and boxes came through the front door in a more random distribution. So now there is further redistribution to be done, but very little "rattle space" to make that easy. Thank goodness 2 very kind neighbours stepped up and helped Mrs Proud to be... as well as my daughter; otherwise I dread to think how chaotic the reception party might have been. We moved houses 18 times in our first 34 years of mariage - so we knew how badly this could go! Overall, it could have been a lot worse.

Good to hear you are home Roland but concerning that you don't have a cause or treatment for it what happened. Try not to be in too much of a hurry to set the house straight. Give you body time to get over this event.

Thanks Barbara, as it happens our next phase is the decorator will start next Wed, so we are strictly now only unpacking things that can be stored in a fixed cupboard. We tried to get the decorator started the day after our daughter and family moved out, but that plan got sabotaged. ( Best laid plans, etc. ALWAYS make a plan, then it can be changed, no plan=anarchy). So housexstraightenibg is solely shuffling boxes to create clear(ish) easy to decorate rooms.

Trying now to get GP face to face quickly.

Very pleased that you have made it home, and hope that you get your F2F GP appointment soon.

Glad that the decorators prevent you from doing much regarding sorting. Take care.
