On Friday I had the pleasure to drive up the M1 from Hemel Hempstead to Yorkshire. For the first part of the journey I had no problem testing every 2 hours but then due to road works/heavy traffic I was unable to. What should you do in these circumstances?

I don't know. The same thought occurred to me, also on Friday, when I was stuck on the M6. In my case, there was a ten minute interlude where I was completely stopped, with the engine off, so was able to do a quick test at that point, but the rest of the time I was crawling at 5mph. Stopping on the hard shoulder wouldn't have been an option either, because it was coned off.

I think one of us needs to ask either DUK or DVLA - cos it is something I have often wondered, over the years, but never found a definitive answer. I should imagine that you would be expected to test 'as soon as convenient' - unless of course you actually feel hypo, in which case it is the hard shoulder, although I don't even know if I can put my hazards on and take the keys out of the ignition - can one?

Cos in Robin's situation, if you break down they tell you to stop where you are and wait for assistance - imagine the slagging off you'd get from whoever's behind you! And the totally filthy looks at you having moved into the passenger seat across the console ...... Just make sure you are coasting in double figures (BG wise!) before you get on a motorway probably!

Said she, who used to use the M5 as just another road when she lived in Kidderminster/parents at West Brom/in-laws at Gt Barr/work in Brum and ditto the M6 now she lives in Bedworth (Jct 3)/eldest daughter at Rugby (Jct 1)/as is Hosp D Clinic - oh and other depts. at Hospital are off Jct 2 !

I googled lorry drivers, because they are in the same situation with their tachographs. In their case, apparently, there is leeway from VOSPA for them to note down if they were unavoidably held up beyond when they should have been having a break, as long as they log it as soon as they can afterwards. Common sense suggests testing as soon as it's possible to stop safely (at the next service station), although 'Common sense' and 'DVLA' aren't often found in the same sentence.

Well - that's what I said in my first para - as soon as convenient - but I agree with your last sentence too!

Get a Freestyle Libra ! £130 well spent
I am assuming that because the Libre isn't officially approved by NICE yet, it may not satisfy the DVLA criteria. I was in fact wearing a sensor on Friday, and got my daughter to waft the reader over my arm at intervals while I was driving, but I'd rather not get into a messy argument with the the DVLA as to whether it was officially 'testing'

I find my Libra pretty much the same values as blood test 🙂 You can test every min if you want

Not when you're driving you can't Hobie!

Anyway - Robin's right - DVLA don't recognise any sort of CGM in fact! Fine if you want to be the test case, but if you lose, it's your licence on the line, nobody else's!
