Hi Susannah, sorry you're having problems with ulcers. A close friend had one that took 5 years to heal, so it could be a long battle I'm afraid. Are you seeing a specialist tissue viability team?

Ulcers, by definition, are slow to heal. So, they need regular (not necesarily frequent) changes of appropriate dressings, use of compression stockings etc.

Did you miss any appointments while visiting your son? Where does your son live? UK? Somewhere tropical? Was it a long journey? All those things need to be overcome to heal ulcers.

Definitely worth asking for referral to tissue viability team - this is one area where nurses often take the lead, which can mean some (but by no means all) GPs are reluctant to refer.

Have you had your circulation checked (Doppler test). Compression stockings could be inapproprite if there is a circulation issue. More detailed message sent.
