Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi everyone!
UK born but been living in USA quite a while and due to return to UK soon as our house sells. Diabetes 2 is in my mum's side of the family and I never thought I would be diagnosed but I realised the high blood sugar at the end of my pregnancy many years ago was just the start and I've had symptoms for years. Now I am struggling to keep the numbers down and lose weight. Have been on Metformin a number of years then a new Doctor discovered liver disease N.A.S.H. which she feels is due to Metformin and she reduced Metformin and added Januvia which appeared to work. Change of statin has got my HDL, LDL and Tri's back to normal after years of it being wrong. My last fasting B/test numbers increased (10.9) so Dr. has added Trulicity but this has made me feel very nauseous and have headaches. This is a weekly injection and I'm due for another but my daily finger prick tests are not showing a difference so far. Does it take a while to work? Anyone else been on this combo?

Hi Rain from a fellow Expat.... Sorry I don't have any advice regarding this combo

Welcome Rain from a fellow T2 (3 years in last month). There are some others around here who are in America, as well as other places around the world.
England uses a different numbers to America, so some converstions might have to be done.
My last fasting B/test numbers
I'm in England and I don't have fasting tests. I've had several HbA1c tests. Normal is between 30 & 41, 42 to 47 is pre diabetec (?), and hitting 48 and above is when you get diagnosed diabeted. I've been getting 46-48 for a while now.
No funding for test strips, so no self testing. :(

I hope the house sail goes well.

Hello @RainS

Welcome to the forum 🙂

I'll leave our T2s to comment on meds etc as I have no experience of them I'm afraid.

Hi RainS,
Welcome to the forum. A friend started taking weekly Trulicity injections a few months ago. They do give her headaches and nausea too. They took several weeks before she noticed an improvement in her blood sugar levels, but truthfully she's not very careful about what she eats!
