I Am over the moon twice that i have NOT got a sweet tooth. I eat what i want & eat Fish etc for england ! 😎 Eat cakes go for a run !

I must be the exception because I have given up trying to work out how to bolus for loads of foods. Mash potato, white bread, fruit, fruit juice, most chocolate bars, Chinese, pizza, cocktails, white rice, crunchy nut cornflakes - in fact most cereal, hot chocolate, caffeinated coffee, sugar in tea, marshmallows, haribos, mints.
I have been drunk but not legless, I no longer snack and I rarely have more than 50g of carbs per meal.

I remember only a couple of days after my son's diagnosis breaking down in tears on the phone to a DSN as my son's birthday was the next day and pre-diagnosis we had been out shopping for party food. I thought he wouldn't be able to eat any of it - that serious misconception the vast majority of people seem to have about T1 diabetes. I was in pieces, mortified he couldn't (in my mind) have any of it. It was at that point, and backed up by the dietician a few days later on a home visit, that NO food is off limits. The only thing they did say to avoid was full sugar Coke etc (except to treat hypos).

She did say buffets are the big problem area - and that's exactly the type of food we had bought - but said rather than graze, just fill his plate in one go and estimate the carbs for that and try and resist the urge for seconds. I asked about birthday cake too, and she said that was fine, just add the units for it.

I think almost everyone on here has come across "You shouldn't be eating that, should you?" type of comment from others, ignorance is alive and kicking. As soon as you mention diabetes everyone thinks of sugar, sweets, cakes and biscuits and assumes you can't eat any of them. As I know has been said on here before, older generations used to call it "Sugar diabetes" and I certainly was told my Nan had diabetes (type 2) because she ate too much sugar! So nagging at the back of many peoples' minds would be those type of phrases and therefore the belief you can't eat any of it. Wouldn't it be great if we could educate the nation!

from a diabetes point of view I eat virtually anything....although I don't drink fruit juice often unless hypo and I love baguettes but don't eat them often as they are so massive on carbs and I get a mega spike! I am careful with cereals too, but I do eat cheerios and 'proper' porridge.

I tend to eat what I feel like, just as long as I work the Carbs out and bolus for them 🙂 I have a few must not eat items, Onions and Eggs due to being intolerant of them and Nuts due to having an allergy to them. It is very rare for me to drink alcohol but if I do it is normally Bitter, Cider or Wine. On the soft drink side, I will drink Diet or sugar free pop and Coffee (with some sugar and milk too bitter otherwise)

Oh I love chocolate, generally dark though I do like white chocolate too.

I found a not good idea food this morning.................. Raw cake mix 😡
Decided to scrape the bowl out this morning after batch baking rock cakes for my landlord.
Never even crossed my mind to bolus for such a small amount. Was yummy though :D

They cause indigestion they do Sue - that's because I always want to eat at least one before it's cool enough really!
