Hello everyone. I am Martin from Cumbria. I have type 2 diabetes.
As well as a heart disease. I recently noticed a red patch in my right eye. Not sure if this could be a sign of retinopathy. So I need to get it checked out. All the best to all.
Hello Matt and welcome to the forum. I have no idea if your eye problem is related in any way to your diabetes but of course you are right to get it checked out. I hope all goes well with that and please let us know how you get on. Feel free to ask any questions you want. Regards to you.
When you say a red patch in your eye do you mean in the white of your eye looking in a mirror or actually in your vision as you look outwards? Retinopathy affects the tiny blood vessels on the retina at the back of the eye and doesn't tend to cause anything obvious such as red patches in the whites of the eyes but it does cause damage to the tiny blood vessels in your retina causing bleeds which can obscure your vision through your eye. If the patch is inside your eye affecting your vision then please follow it up asap at an eye hospital or via your GP. Have you been for an annual retina scan where photos are taken of your retinas, if so was all ok when you had the last photos done?
Hi. Thank you so much for your replies. I got my eye checked. All is well thankfully. It was in the whites of my eye. Nothing to do with my diabetes. Thank you all so much.
Hiya CathyB. Hope you are doing well. It seems there are more people with heart disease as well as diabetes. I didn't realize there would be so many on here. I have had heart disease since 2009. Ended up having a double bypass. I was only 36 at the time. But I can now climb the mountains again so that side of things must be doing well. Take care Matt

Great to hear your heart is not causing problems Matt Mine is a genetic problem caused by a faulty gene that has resulted in my now having an ICD to pace me out of trouble and shock if needed (not happened yet thankfully 😱). I also had a big problem with angina but have to say, since going low carb and getting my bloods back under control I have dropped just under 4 stone and now regularly walk my neighbours dog, my angina seems to have disappeared, pain free for around 6 months 🙂
