Are you on Metformin? It always advisable to test at home if possible especially at the beginning when you’re wanting to know which foods spike you.

Hi. Can you say what you mean by a healthy diet. Apart from having a low-carb diet, which most find is necessary to control weight and blood sugar, you don't lose weight from the diabetes itself. Metformin has little effect on weight and neither do stains so it's possibly too many carbs? Yes, you do need to check your bloods so do get a meter.

Hi not on metformin how would I test myself . I also take strange shaking during the night is this the diabetes thanks Judy

If your doctor won’t provide a meter and testing strips, you may need to buy your own if you’re able. The Codefree is said to have the cheapest strips.
Cereal can be high in carb and some fruit will hit your system as hard as sugar sweets. That’s why testing is essential because we all react differently to foods. Brown bread can have 15-18grams of carb a slice so that could keep your levels high. Burgen bread seems lowest in carbs.

If you’re having strange shaking through the night, you need to mention this to your doctor. Good luck!

You need to avoid spiking your blood sugars - cereals, fruit and bread will raise your blood glucose and there are consequences.
As a diabetic you can eat any meat, fish, shellfish, eggs and cheese without much trouble, and use any fats for cooking or eat them with the food.
Avoiding bread, rice, in fact most grains, potatoes, starchy vegetables in general and sweet fruits - anything over 10 percent carbs as they tend to raise your blood glucose unless they are eaten in small amounts. VERY small amounts.
I found it impossible to eat a normal diet and maintain my weight, all my adult life, but I can live quite happily on all the low carb foods, and even lose weight without really trying. When you get a meter test yourself before and after meals, and adjust what you eat to keep your numbers in the normal range. It should rebalance your metabolism and keep your blood glucose under control.

We are all different and you have to find what works for you and can maintain long term.

Hi everyone think I posted on wrong site but spoke to doctor today she doesn't thinking need monitor but have to go. And see her as she doesn't think problems are related to diabetes and is making me an appointment with a dietician although I think I may after seeing her go and get a monitor as when you were talking of them maybe it will calm me down a bit thanks

Not testing?
Would they drive a car without a speedometer and just wait for the fines to arrive to discover if they'd been going too fast?
The dietician might net be much use - mine advised me to eat all the foods which spike my blood sugars. I quite enjoyed seeing her fact when my 3 month Hba1c came back at 47.
