Welcome to the group Kenny, sorry for the DX...

You may find sometimes conflicting information on this forum, but bear in mind that we live with D on a daily basis & are finding out what works for us in management of our disease (each one of us is different & D affects us differently). Feel free to pick our brains, ask questions, ask for clarification, then you will soon get the hang of Diabetes.

yes will do just getting head round it on 1 500g metformin a day but unsure if its good or bad, diabetic nurse was not the most helpful person i have met

Metformin can have some side affects particularly gastro intestinal, it's a low dose to wean yourself onto it..... It will probably be increased. There is a lot of discussion on this board relating to the less than satisfactory state of diabetic healthcare.

One good thing that you can start to do is cut/reduce the main sources of carbs... Bread, pasta, rice, cereals & starchy vegetables; replacing them with vegetables grown predominantly above ground. To help you learn the effect food has on you Blood Glucose is to test.... Dr.'s don't generally prescribe test meters for T2's not on anti-diabetics so self funded is the usual option, the SD Codefree from Amazon is a good cheap option

Hi Welcome.

This is what I would have liked to have known from day 1. I would cut the Sugars including fruit/juice and Starches, including breads, pasta, rice, potato etc

This gives a simple overview to how it works for me. The more carbs I eat, the more carbs I want. They don’t give up easy and it’s biochemical

Welcome to the forum.

Things can be a bit overwhelming at first, so take your time to get settled and try not to overload on information (unless, you like that sort of thing! I'm a bit weird, I think, because having something of a scientific background I actually enjoy the information side of things).

One thing which may be helpful, is if you can get yourself on a diabetes course in your area (I assume the NHS still runs them, but my knowledge is over 6 years out of date now). I was able to attend one called Diabetes Xpert within a couple of months of diagnosis which was extremely helpful for me.

But, failing that, just ask loads of questions here!

Andy 🙂
