Hi Guys hope your all well I am type 1 and have HBA1C done to check my overall control of Diabetes , My Question is how do they check Type 2 to see how weel controled they are ??? Is it the same or Diffrant
Marie

The same as with Type 1s: via HbA1c. Usually less frequently though than Type 1s after the first year.

Hi Marier.

I know type1 do not like being mixed in with type2 because of the stigma attached to type2 of being fat lazy layabouts, who eat rubbish fast foods and dont take care of themselves. One of the reasons for both is insulin or lack of it, and how the body uses it.

I am type2, and I have been on MDI (multible daily injections) from the first day of my diagnosis. Just like type1, my pancreas no longer produces insulin, but the reason for that, is not because it was attacked and destroyed, but because it burnt itself out having to produce more and more for years prior to my diagnosis, therefore I am type2 . My HbA1c. is checked every 6 months.

Hi Marier.

I'm type 2 both drug and diet controlled.
I take 80mg of Gliclazide and 2000mg of Metformin daily and have blood checkes every 6 months-apparently that's all that is required so I'm told.
Personally I don't think it's enough and I'm going to increase the amount of checks I have.
I'm currently trying to persuade my GP to let me have test strips so that I can test myself at home but so far I've been told they are not necessary.
