Hello @Web73
Welcome to the forum.
Are you on any medication and are you drinking due to excessive thirst?
We are always interested in finding out what a type 2 is eating, as that seems quite important for us so perhaps if you let us know what you do eat .
To be having such high numbers must be concerning. Have you kept in touch with your GP or nurse about those levels?

Can you try drinking less in the evening so you get a full nights sleep? Lack of sleep makes you feel rubbish.

That’s a pretty high dose of Levemir (the insulin). Can I ask what you eat in an average day?

Your gona b shocked when I tell ya about 8 when I wake up its about 6.1ill have a cuppa t and it starts going up ill have my dinner about 12 a ham sandwich with 2 bags of small crisps about 5 minutes after that it starts going up I'll have a cuppa t with a small chocolate bar and me stomach is rock hard and it still getting higher with the arthritis tablets that I'm on they make me drowcey so they make me sleep by 2pm my bloods about 13/14 so ill take 60 units of insulin and start on the water to get it down if I'm not hungry I won't eat till the next day same as if me bloods still high ill just drink water

I'll drink 2 litres of water threw the night just to get me blood down I'm at the diabetic clinic the end of this month so gona have to say something

Levemir is usually taken morning and evening @Web73 What instructions were you given about when to take it? The idea is that it then provides background cover over the 24hrs. It takes a few hours to reach its peak of action so it’s no use injecting it to bring down a high blood sugar. That’s not its job. You’d need a fast insulin for that.

If you skip breakfast, it might be that your body pumps out extra glucose to compensate. That might explain why your blood sugar rises through the morning.

Really you need support to get your Levemir schedule right. You might then find that your blood sugars improve. The correct insulin at the right times will bring your blood sugar down much, much better than water.

When do you take your second dose of Levemir?

You should certainly discuss this at your clinic as there is such a thing as water toxicity as you are diluting the electrolytes in your body and affect your kidneys etc.

@Leadinglights I did wonder whether the hard stomach might be due to water retention in the abdominal area. How much fluid in total would you say you’re drinking a day @Web73 ?

Did the diabetes clinic actually advise you to drink 2L of water during the night and spend the night peeing or is it just something you’ve decided to do by yourself?

I’d just stop doing it.

The time you take your nighttime Levemir is ok but I’d say you need to move your first Levemir closer to breakfast time even if you don’t eat breakfast. You should then hopefully find your blood sugar at lunchtime and in the afternoon is a bit lower.

Drinking too much water can also kill you though. Don’t just follow every suggestion you read online.
