Type 2 with a cold needs help....

Hi All

This is going to sound like a really stupid question, but its one that I need to ask as I don't have anyone around me with diabetes that can answer it for me.

I've just started to get a cold and its the first illness that ive got since being diagnosed in September. Usually I would take one of the main cold all in one capsules to help me fight it but now I feel that I have to question everything. Is it still OK for me to take these capsules, im on Metaformin MR and Rampril for my blood pressure.

Sorry if its a silly question - but I just know that you all will be able to help me.

I too take metformin MR and would still mormally take these capsules but you may want to ask pharamacist at chemist. You can also buy sugar free cough medicine called pavacol D. Sorry not much good but thats what i'd do
 
I don't have any personal experience of those medicines but it may be worth a call to nhs direct, they should be able to advise...
 
Neither of those meds have any problems with cold meds - your doc or a pharmacist can confirm this.

Having a cold or any other infection will raise your BG, so its particularly important not to stop metformin while ill. Of course it also prevents you from exercising much as well so be particularly careful with your BG and what you are eating for the duration.
 
Thank you all for your replies. Thankfully my cold seems to have not got any worse and although a bit congested I feel OK. All i've taken is some additional headache tablets which have helped. The only problem is that im feeling hungier than usual so have eaten more fruit then I would normall.
