Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
my husband was recently diagnosed with type 2 and he has to wait 3 weeks for his appointment so we have no idea what he should and shouldn't be eating but he is very tired all the time. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

Hi Phil40 & welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis. Diabetes is not just about watching your sugar intake, but you need to watch the carbs as well, as these turn to glucose in the body & raise BG (blood glucose) levels. So that includes bread, rice, pasta & starchy veg such as potatoes. Best not to give everything up straight away, do it gradually. This is more of a marathon than a sprint. Also would be a good idea to get a meter. Most GP's wont supply a meter aa they think type 2's shouldn't test, but if you want to keep things under control, a meter is essential. Please feel free to ask anything. We are a friendly bunch on here.🙂

This is what I would have liked to have known from day 1. I would cut the Sugars including fruit/juice and Starches, including breads, pasta, rice, potato etc

This gives a simple overview to how it works for me. The more carbs I eat, the more carbs I want. They don’t give up easy and it’s biochemical

Hi Phil40 Welcome. You've come to the right place for info and cyber support. How did your husband come to be diagnosed
Three weeks is an eternity isn't it. But we can help in the meantime
The tiredness could be because of high blood glucose (BG) levels. as they come down your husband will start to feel better.
As others have already said Diabetes is not just about cutting out/down sugar We turn carbohydrates into glucose some quicker than others.
So you need to start reading the labels on foods you buy, ignore the traffic light system on the front , the most useful labels is usually on the back, it's the total carbs not the of which are sugars that you need to know.
Dont worry it's not as hard as it seems, and some things can be successfully substituted , I'll put a link to our recipe forum later.

For now try to cut down a bit on potatoes, rice, pasta and bread (I have wholemeal bread others here have burgen sp? Bread or lidl protein rolls)
Avoid fruit juice and grapes as very high in sugar.
