I have looked on the Diabetes UK website and although they still promote the traffic light system I have deleted my comment.
I am not surprised Diabetes UK main site still promotes traffic lights, their dietary advice has always been welded to NHS advice, and decidedly dodgy. Both are changing with respect to recognising that carbs are the problem, but very, very slowly.

This forum used to be much more separate from the main site, no staff members with DUK titles, and some older members still see it as different, which is confusing to newer members!

When I found the forum, probably about 2011 or 2012 as I lurked for at least a year before joining in 2014, the main site recommended 14 servings of carb. a day for T2s, with a serving being a slice of bread or equivalent. 14!!!! eeeeek!

I had not realised that there were two separate sites until somebody posted something a few months ago, so yes, very confusing to new people. I was recommending people on the 'chat' of the MYDesmond program to diabetes uk without recognising they were different, I have amended my ways so hopefully some people have found this site.

I was not actually referring to the two completely different sites, the other "red" site ending .co.uk and this one ending .org.uk, now the "blue" site but when I joined it was pink. That;s another source of confusion!

I meant the separation between this main site and the forum - no obvious staff members on the forum, just @Northerner as Admin, and he always seemed like "one of us", not "one of them"! It also seemed harder to navigate between the main site and the forum.

I think you are referring to "the red site" whereas Diabetes UK here is the "blue site" as you can see. I think what @silentsquirrel is referring to is the difference between the line of advice given by the main charity website here (the learning zone, recipes etc) which follows the NHS dietary advice quite closely and most of us know isn't ideal and the forum itself which is kindly hosted by Diabetes UK but the content is mostly member based from people living with and experiencing diabetes first hand, so the likes of you and I influence the content.
I believe the "Red site" is much more radically low carb/keto than we are on the forum here, but the main Diabetes UK charity "blue site" who host us, are more true blue conservative in their approach. I think this probably works well as the radical is tempered by a bit of of the old staid and you end up with mostly middle ground where people are more comfortable finding their place on the spectrum and other views are better tolerated.

Thanks for explaining it all so much more lucidly and tactfully than i managed!

Hmmm - was the change from pink to blue political? Never thought about that! Much easier to find the tab when I have too many windows open when it was bright pink.

@silentsquirrel
I joined after it changed to blue so I have never known anything else and it is the only site I use although I did stray onto the "red site" a couple of times through searches, I never felt compelled to join.
I am sure you realised I didn't mean "Conservative" in the party political sense but the 2 colours of the sites do represent the ideological approach of the respective sites quite well I think and I see the forum here as good middle ground between them. Just like in parliament, you need good strong opposition to the government whichever party that happens to be to temper legislation and it isn't healthy for any one side to have all it's own way. Balance is key. So whilst there are often times on this forum when we don't all agree (like the posts above about the traffic light system), there is enough balance for all views to be expressed or for people to be persuaded one way or another through discussion.

Weetabix works for me only the one though for breakfast I can tolerate that
it has about 13g of carbs - Bread well I use Liv Life can only get it from Waitrose
its seeded and quite small slices but it fills me up and to my palate its nice it might
not be nice to others and around 3.4grams a slice its ideal if you fancy an egg on toast 🙂
for rice I use cauliflower rice instead of other white rice and at the weekend a treat is
a chocolate eclair at 8g carbs sugar free jelly with raspberries in it and full cream and
greek yoghurt are some of the foods I eat so what I am trying to say is my life, although
I am diabetic has adjusted and I feel Im not missing out on anything lost weight and other
problems that went along with a rubbish diet are now gone, don't go down the route of
losing carbs too quickly it can, I believe, affect the eyesight we are all individual and when
you learn the ropes you will be OK when you start lower carbs and testing is the key
