Hi and welcome to the forum.

Hi Miss Honey pot , welcome. I like your Avatar 🙂
I'm T2 and have been on insulin since January last year. I'm not saying their aren't a few cons because I'd be lying, but their are far more pros !
I now feel better in myself than I have for years!
So please dont be scared of it , ok.
Feel free to ask questions we'll do our best to help.

Thank you, it pretty much sums me up!
I am apprehensive about it but I have to be confident and do as the doctor tells me. I know my family and work colleagues will support me and as you say I can alway ask you!
I appreciate your message. 🙂
I am glad to hear your family, friends and colleagues are supportive.

I was wondering if you have been given the standard dietary advise that most of us get, i.e. You must eat carbohydrates or that eatwell plate. Many of us find this does not work for us.
Also if you would tell us what conserns you about going on insulin, we will be able to explain things from personal experience.

Ok. I won't go into the Insulin atm as we do t know what you'll be on. So I'll deal with hypo's.

This is probably going to sound strange.
False hypo's. is when the meter says you're fine but you've got hypo symptoms , its because you're body has got used to higher BG levels and your brain thinks it's starving , so it starts to alert you that you need to eat .
Sometime eating a non carby snack will fool your body that all is well. Rest assured these false hypo's are only unpleasant and are in no way dangerous.
In time our bodies do learn that all is well.

It's important to have hypo treatment to hand when you're out and about as well as your testing kit.
Many here use jelly babies, personally I use dextrose tablets as I'd only scoff the jelly babies and have none left for hypo's. 😱
At home when downstairs I use fruit juice. Upstairs I have a stash of glucose tablets.
Take 15 g of your chosen fast acting carb hypo treatment, after 15 mins test BGs again if meter still shows your hypo, have another 15 g and 15 mins later retest . They are usually easy to deal with. and don't worry about running a bit high afterwards. When recovered try to work out what could have caused it

Symptoms can vary from person to person. These are some of mine
I start with tingly lips that spread to my face,
My hands start to shake.
Severe hunger
Tiredness.
Confusion.

Good to hear people's feedback. I am in a similar position. Thus far I am not tolerating Diabetic drugs. Next step insulin

Yes it sounds like we are. I am now on Canaglifloxin. This is the last drug before insulin. The effects of this are just about tolerable. It has brought by levels down which is great.

Hope your GP appt went ok.

Miss H P . It's most unusual to get hypo's from metfartin as it's often called here.
Good luck for Wednesday.

The side effects must be horrible for you. Have you been on Canaglifloxin long.

I have been on Canaglifloxin now since March. Things have not been good since being diagnosed. I also have colitis. Diabetic drugs and colitis do not mix well. Metfartin is a very appropriate name

Hi

I have been type 2 for about 14 years and I was told yesterday that I need to go on insulin. Although having diabetes for so long, I still find it scary!

So a complete life overhaul for me and although not feeling positive about it yesterday I am up and ready to battle what ever diabetes throws at me!

I look forward to getting the gos on here.

TTFN

Miss Honey Pot
